Forza Motorsport 3 Demo now available for download on Xbox Live

The playable demo of Forza Motorsport 3 for Xbox 360 is now available for download on Xbox Live for Gold level members.

The eagerly awaited third installment in the massively succesful racing franchise is due for release on October 23rd, but Forza fans can get behind the wheel of 5 cars and 1 track today and experience the full cockpit view, damage and rollover features as well as the game's new 'rewind' function.

The cars featured in the demo are the 2007 Porsche #80 Flying Lizard 911 GT3-RSR, 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro, 2009 Ferrari California, 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR and 2009 Mini John Cooper Works, all of which can be given a thrashing around the game's Spanish mountain circuit named 'Camino Viejo'.

The demo also allows players to post their laptimes to online leaderboards.

So that's the rest of my day written off then (once the 1.25GB download completes)!

JelloCar - fun and squishy Time Waster

JelloCar lets you drive jello like a pro
The best part about breaking your leg or your arm or your collar bone, aside from all the fringe benefits, is that you get to go to the hospital and eat all the Jello you want. JelloCar is a fun little game that takes that concept to the next level: by letting you DRIVE all the Jello you want.

Ok, so maybe that analogy doesn't work. This is still a fun little game though. Basically you are a 2D Jello Car in a 2D Jello World. Everything has Jello like physics and each level is more of a like a puzzle than a race track. Hit the space bar and the car grows by a 1000% -- very useful for cross large pot holes or pushing aside boulders. There are a lot of levels included and you can build your own using the included level editor.

This is, obviously, an independently produced game and the sound shows it. Just picture a 25 year old man standing behind your chair making "vroom!" sounds and you get the basic idea. Still, if this doesn't totally creep you out, the sounds are pretty amusing.

All and all a fun game and a fantastic example of 2D game physics. The game comes in Windows and XBOX 360 versions.

Internet TV comes to the Xbox 360

Xbox 360 IPTV
That Xbox 360 in your living room? It's not just for video games anymore. In addition to the high definition movie download service Microsoft launched earlier this year, you can expect an IPTV service to launch towards the end of 2007, effectively turning the video game console into a personal video recorder and multimedia device.

You'll be able to watch live streaming broadcasts, and you can even a game while recording a program in the background. Of course you'll get all the usual benefits of a personal video recorder, like an on-screen program guide and the ability to pause, rewind, and fast forward through recordings.

While there were rumors that Microsoft would announce a brand new version of the Xbox 360 capable of acting as a traditional video recorder, going the IPTV route means that Microsoft can roll out these new functions with a software update, no new hardware needed.

There are no details yet on pricing and whether you'll need to install a larger hard drive on your Xbox 360 for the service to work, although I'd imagine that you'd really want more than 20GB.

Microsoft's answer to the PS3

gears of warOnly Halo 3 would do any damage in Microsoft's war with Sony's PlayStation line of gaming consoles. Gears of War isn't going to pull enough attention away from the launch of such a highly anticipated console as PS3. Gears of War is probably a fine game, not that I've played it. There is a slight possibility it will be a better game than Halo, but I doubt it. The Halo franchise already has a large following which is really what would do damage to Sony's PS3, if released. Gears of War is new, but there is something to be said for an established gaming brand like Halo going up against a new console. If Microsoft really wanted to do damage to Sony's PS3 launch they should release (at least should have planned to release) Halo 3 right when PS3 is launched.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
