You Fell Asleep Watching a DVD - Time Waster

You Fell Asleep Watching a DVD
Ever have a few drinks and nod off while watching a DVD? I'm pretty sure almost all of us has been there at one time or another. If you've ever longed for that feeling you get when you groggily wake up to the DVD's menu playing over and over again, head on over to You Fell Asleep Watching a DVD.

You can choose from a selection of DVDs to "fall asleep" in front of, including:
  • Pride & Prejudice
  • Knocked Up
  • Punch Drunk Love
  • Bucket List
  • Arrested Development
  • Terminator 2
  • Van Wilder
  • Harry Potter 3
  • Reservoir Dogs
  • The Ben Stiller Show
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • Bourne Supremacy
This site has a very high WTF factor. There's really nothing more to do than select a movie and watch its menu screen on a tiny screen on a cartoon television in a static cartoon living room. If it was my site, each DVD screen would link to Amazon with an affiliate link so I could make a couple bucks off of it. But then, I'm greedy like that.

Dell: The Musical?!

And now, as the kids say, for something completely different. Really, really, different. What do you get when you combine a bunch of mega-tech-CEOs (Michael Dell, EMC's Joe Tucci, Oracle's Larry Ellison, AMD's Hector Ruiz and Intel's Paul Otellini), JibJab-style animation, musical theatre and possibly Quaaludes? Dell: The Journey. I don't know what it is, or who thought it was just the good idea Dell needed, or whether it's the best thing ever or the worst, but I do know that you need to watch this. I don't want to spoil it or anything, but "Let's go kick some proprietary ass" is one quote I'm unlikely to forget any time soon.

[Thanks (I think), Matt!]

Ask.com adds... emoticon search?

Ask.com emoticon searchThe latest post at the Ask.com blog begins, "For a long time people have wanted the ability to search for terms and phrases on the web using non-letter (A-Z) characters. Put another way, searching using non-alphanumeric characters." This is a promising start--I've occasionally been annoyed by the fact that Google interprets almost all non-alphanumeric characters as spaces--but then things go off in a different direction: emoticons. I really wasn't aware that there were so many people crying out for a way to find the meanings of certain emoticons, but apparently there are. As a result, you can now search for :) or >:-( or :-O and Ask.com will tell you, via what it calls the Smart Answer box, what it's supposed to mean. Ask.com doesn't really say how many emoticons it knows, but it does seem to be missing some like :-[ and it also doesn't seem to differentiate between upper- and lowercase, so it interprets :-d as the same as :-D ("laughing, big smile"). It does, however, toss at least one non-emoticon into the mix, which the geeks in the audience will recognize: /. , as well as some popular acronyms like LOL and BRB. It even has WTF (uncensored!) but not, curiously, OMG.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
