Barack Obama - President 2.0?

Obama family on election night
First the Obama campaign was sending out text messages to the masses and that whole thing came up about John McCain not using email. Obama was campaigning for those of us who are into the web. He appealed to our technology.

It appears he is going to keep it up. There are Presidential baby photos on the web. And, the President-elect is on flickr. He has released an entire set of election night photos of his family awaiting results in their hotel room. I wonder what will be next.

The Obamas certainly seem willing to let us have glimpses of their world. And they understand how to reach out on the web. No wonder someone took the time to make a flash game for Obama. Let's hope it continues. Maybe there will be a presidential blog.

Mister Wong offers empty bottle for charity

This is not the missing water.Well here's an idea you don't see every day. Geekdom superhero Tim O'Reilly stopped by the shoomze-booth of social bookmarking site Mister Wong at the recent Web 2.0 Expo and the forward thinking gents at the booth snagged the empty water bottle he was seen swigging from. They decided that selling it would be a great way to raise money for a worthy cause and now it's up for sale on eBay. The proceeds will go toward Unicef's safe water campaign.

No, seriously.

Look, we laughed ourselves right under the desk at first too. Then -- and maybe it's the heady sense of philanthropy talking -- it began to sound like a halfway decent idea. After all, where's the harm in it, y'know? Unicef is a worthwhile cause that could surely benefit from a few extra dollars and maybe there's someone out there who's been longing for a bottle that's known to have rested gently on the lips of the The Tim.

Let's just hope there's no backwash in it.

Stixy - fun and EZ collaboration tool

Stixy

Stixy, just out of private beta, is yet another online collaboration tool where you can create virtual bulletin boards online, share with your friends as co-collaborators or just have them view. Stixy allows users to create tasks, appointments, files, photos, notes, and bookmarks on their Stixyboards.

The beauty of Stixy is that it is super easy to get started and its interface is clean, fun and appealing. You can get a Stixyboard up and running in about um - two minutes. It has the same appeal as Mixbook, although Mixbook is an online photo album, whereas Stixy adds other features like sticky notes, documents, to do list and agenda.

Online collaboration tools run the gamut in price, features, and complexity. If you're looking for something that's so simple you can start using it immediately, Stixy would be an excellent choice. If on the other hand, you want to access your own calendar, rather than create one on Stixy, and you want your friends/colleagues to be able to edit documents online, (Stixy does not offer a web-based word processor) then you probably need a different, more robust application.

Stixy, with offices in San Francisco and Sweden, was founded by Jonas Höglund and Anders Ottoson.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
