How to remove Windows 7 Send Feedback, Watermark text

Send Feedback

Windows 7 Beta may be available as a free download, and it may run pretty well right now. But it's still beta software. And that means that:

  1. Microsoft wants to remind users that they're looking at beta software.
  2. The company is hoping to solicit feedback to make the operating system better before the final version is released.
To that end, the company puts a watermark in the bottom right corner of the desktop that reads "Windows 7 For testing purposes only." And almost every system application has a link in the upper right corner that says "Send Feedback."

If you have valuable feedback to send Microsoft, you should totally click that button. But you can also send feedback by clicking the "Send Feedback" button that Windows 7 automatically installs on your desktop, or you can just type "feedback" into the Windows search box.

So if you don't need the constant reminder, or if you have no intention of sending feedback, read on to find out how to disable the link. And we'll tell you how to get rid of the "For testing purposes only" watermark while we're at it.

Watermark your photos for free with PicMarkr

Whenever you upload a photo to the web you run the risk that someone will download your photo and decide use it themselves. PicMarkr makes uploading your photos to the web a little safer by allowing you to add a custom watermark to your photos. The whole watermarking process takes less than a minute and watermarks can be added to up to five photos at a time. Photos can either be uploaded directly to the site to be watermarked or pulled from your Flickr account.

PicMarkr offers three different types of watermarking options: Text watermark, Image watermark, and Tiled watermark. Once an image is watermarked it can be downloaded directly to your computer or uploaded to your Flickr account.

Check out examples of all three watermarking options after the jump.

The DRM problem solved?

NotesThe Germans have always been known for their stalwart adherence to the "textbook" way to do something. They produce some of the finest products in the world, which of course you knew. The Germans have done it once again, and this time it may be a good solution to our real-world DRM problem. The German company Akuma is letting their customers download music without DRM. The MP3 files contain a small high-pitched "watermark" that identifies the song's purchaser. This allows people to play the song on any device they want without restrictions, and allows law-enforcement to catch anyone who shares songs on file-sharing P2P networks. I think the idea is brilliant where the best of both worlds can comfortably collide, giving everyone what they want. The question I have still is how easy would it be to remove the "watermark" from the song? What about converting it to another format? Will this loose the track's "watermark" or not? It may not be the perfect solution, but then again it may be. At least now, someone is thinking about both sides of the DRM story, not just the big bad wolf, but the little pigs as well.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
