Jalipo, a YouTube alternative for professional content

jalipo online video

In this time of either punking off YouTube, or being its best friend, Jalipo is erring on the side of competition for professionally generated content.

Jalipo lets content owners offer channels through its online marketplace for TV and Video. Jalipo uses J:Credits which is a unique way for owners of content that might not be in a position to give content away, the ability to sell views of it. It's a pay as you watch type system where some content owner's price videos at a per-minute rate. It can be expensive, but it is quality content. There are also some territory restrictions where certain videos might not be available in certain areas due to local rights restrictions. Jalipo sits at the forefront of the new online video revolution right alongside the likes of Joost.

As an alternative to the YouTube's of the world, Jalipo has partnered with, and currently providing content from the BBC World, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera English, and looking to sign some deals to show live sports, concerts, and independent films. The CEO is a former president of Sony Europe, and it looks like his connections and drive are pushing Jalipo into slowly becoming a strong player in the online video marketplace.

Netscape video is slick

Netscape Video
I have used (and still do) a bunch of video upload services, all the usuals, YouTube, Vimeo, Uncut, Google, and some unusual ones as well. I must say I can't get over how simple and elegant the simplicity of Netscape video is. Of course by now I'm sure you know that this blog, and Netscape are owned by AOL, so some of you are saying, "geez, what a cheap plug," but it's not. Netscape makes video easy, even easier than YouTube in my book. I am a quick and dirty application lover, and Netscape Video fits the bill. What is your favorite video service and why? Do you like YouTube's new "Quick Capture" feature, or is Google more your speed? Personally, I love Netscape Video. It is uncommonly uncomplicated.

Use Gmail to view Office files online

View as HTML in GmailThis weekend my girlfriend and I were visiting my mom. My girlfriend needed to view a PowerPoint file someone had sent her, but my mom's really, really old PC doesn't have PowerPoint and, believe it or not, is too old to run the free PowerPoint viewer. I thought for a moment and then remembered that whenever someone e-mails a document in a common format to my Gmail account, a handy "View as HTML" link shows up next to the "Download" link. "Forward it to your Gmail account," I told her, and lo and behold a few seconds later she was able to view the file (albeit with some funky formatting) right in Firefox.

Yesterday the clever folks at Lifehacker printed basically the same tip I gave my girlfriend: If you're traveling and need to read a document but don't have the right app for it, send it to yourself using Gmail. It's a simple idea, but can be a lifesaver, and it works like a charm with PDFs, Office, and OpenOffice.org files.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
