Make Windows XP look like Google Chrome

No, I'm not kidding. I wish I was, but the truth is that a DeviantArt user has cobbled together a skin for Windows that gives it a Google Chrome-y look. And think Chrome on XP - without the sex appeal you get with Aero Glass.

Thick, powder blue borders? Check.

The Chrome logo replacing the start orb? Check.

The comments on DevArt are all very positive, though I'm personally going to pass on this one. I'm just not a big fan of all that blue.

But hey, if you're miffed by the fact that Chrome on XP doesn't look consistent with your other application windows at least now you can apply the Google dress code to them.

A number of other blogs are calling this a "Google Chrome OS Transformation Pack." That'd be a pretty amazing feat, since we only have 1) questionable leaked images to go by and 2) they appeared two weeks after the creator posted this theme to DevArt.

Windows 7 themes for Windows XP and Vista

Not everyone is excited about Windows 7 - there are plenty of XP users that are more than happy to stick with their trusty old OS. Just because you don't want to change the system doesn't mean you can't get Windows 7's update visuals on your desktop.

As is often the case, themers have been more than happy to create transformation packs that allow Windows XP users to skin their desktop to look like Windows 7. Brad wrote about one from DeviantArt users last year - when it was assumed that Windows 7 would look pretty much the same as Vista.

Now, however, we've got some options that more accurately reproduce the superbar and other features that distinguish Windows 7 from its big brother.

How to make Windows look like OS X, Linux, or... Windows

Fedora transformation pack
Love it or hate it, Windows is still pretty much the dominant operating system in the world. And while your heart may be with OS X or Linux, there might be just a couple of programs that you have to run on a regular basis that keep you coming back to your Windows machine. But just because you're running Windows Vista or XP doesn't mean you can't pretend you're using your OS of choice.

We've covered transformation packs that let you change the look and feel of Windows in the past. But Makeuseof has found a few packs that we weren't aware of. For example, you can grab a Fedora or Ubuntu transformation pack that makes your desktop look like Linux. Each transformation pack includes desktops, program icons, and tools for customizing visual styles. You can also use transformation packs to make Windows look like OS X or make XP look like Vista.

We probably don't need to tell you that beauty is only skin deep. Under the hood, if your computer is running Windows, you still have all the usual goodies and frustrations from the Windows registry to the blue screen of death. But at least these transformation packs can make your PC a bit easier on the eyes.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
