Reflow visualizations are crazy

What's this "reflow" stuff mentioned in the title? We're glad you asked because you should probably fully understand know what we're referring to before you watch the vid. Reflow deals with the process by which a browser lays stuff out on a web page -- well, that's a simple way of putting it.

Anyway, the video above is the reflow process of Wikipedia slowed and "visualized". We're unsure how the author of the video captured or simulated the action, but what we do know is it's an interesting way to spend a few seconds. Check out a Google Japan reflow after the jump.

Danger from the Deep - Today's Time Waster

danger from the deepThere are plenty of space shooters, racing games, and puzzles... But how many sub simulators are still out there? Danger from the Deep is a sub simulator, it's open source, and it's free. Right now it's only for Linux and Windows, but it uses SDL and OpenGL, so in theory could be ported to nearly any *NIX-based OS (sorry Be). The graphics are really beautiful. If you've never been in a sub, they convey the cramped, rough life that used to be a WWIII sub. You'll have to have some moldy sock soup and rusty bolts nearby to simulate the smell, but the overall ambience is fantastic. DD isn't ready for primetime as a game however, as damage isn't realistic (one shot and a ship sinks immediately). But it's pretty cool to see just how boring underwater travel can be. Just kidding, what's neat about DD is the ability to tinker with such an interesting machine. Subs are fascinating to me, and in WWII they were finally getting the things right to a degree where they really became deadly. The German subs (which is what you're driving) were particularly effective. And if just running around has you bored, you can create your own missions via simple text files. Dive, dive, dive!

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
