The MGM lion is roaring on iTunes

mgm movies now on itunesFire up the popcorn popper, and get ready to settle into your comfy chair with your iTunes.

iTunes has brought some award winning films from the MGM studios to the iTunes store that are available for purchase and download. These new film additions from the largest film library in the world include Dances with Wolves, Mad Max, The Great Train Robbery, Rocky, The Thomas Crown Affair, Ronin, and Lilies in the Field among others from the list of 208 other Academy Award winners.

The movies are expected to be online in the next few weeks, and will be available in near DVD quality at resolutions of 640x480 and can be viewed on computers, fifth generation iPods, TV's and with Apples new Apple TV.

Apple's current iTunes store holds over 350 television shows and now over 500 movies thanks to the MGM addition.

After this initial launch, the BBC will be releasing a desktop application called iPlayer which allows users to download and watch programs from seven days prior. When downloaded through the iPlayer, a program will be available for 30 days for viewing on computers. No more cable for you

CableLove cable, do you, huh? Why? Seriously, would iTunes (for TV shows) plus Netflix (movies, delivered and streaming) mean the end of your cable-consumed lifestyle? Honestly, what do you think, I want to know. I don't think I would use iTunes, since I don't like iTunes much and refuse to buy anything with DRM whenever possible, but other than that, I can see doing this. I am not a mindless drone who only likes the current hit shows, so the exception for me is that not all of my favorite shows are even on iTunes. A mere few years ago (let's say 5-7 years), there was no commercially available way to ditch your cable, but now, in the new age of information overload, we can. Just the sheer idea that it is possible will alert you to the fact that much has changed. You have no-doubt made some sort of jump to digital music media, CD sales continue to slip, but what about TV and movies? Let's just say that iTunes had everything cable does, as far as programming. Would you switch? What if you saved $300/year, as the story suggests?

Television's Favorites to hit the iTunes Music Store

warner bros on apple itunesFriends, Babylon 5, MADtv, The Jetsons, and The Flintstones not only are some great tv favorites, but they are also set to be released by Warner Bros. onto Apple's iTunes Music Store for download.

Warner Bros. and Apple are releasing these great television moments for the world to download on iTunes for $1.99 per episode. This is a great way to check out a favorite episode of Friends, and the rest of these shows that you just can't stop giggling at the thought of either on your computer, or on an iPod while you're stuck on the subway home.
