Speaking at TheNextWeb conference (via a video link) Digg founder Kevin Rose hinted at some changes coming to the social news site in the next 6 to 12 months.
In a nutshell, Rose says he wants to allow users to Digg just about anything you might want to share with your friends, not just news and videos. That includes photos, product and restaurant reviews, but it probably won't stop there.
There's no shortage of social ranking sites these days, but Digg's strength has always been its tech-savvy audience. The site has added categories since its inception, but some fare better than others with the regular Digg crowd. Meanwhile, other sites like Netscape and Reddit tend to skew less tech-heavy, and have more popular stories on their front pages about general news and entertainment topics.
But this doesn't mean Digg will have to replace its user base in order to balance restaurant reviews with stories about breaking AACS keys. Rather, Rose says Digg will use information it gathers about what stories you've dugg, submitted, buried or shared with friends to recommend stories you may be interested in.
