Ind.ecisions: Help for life's important questions

Should we eat that last donut? Are our Scott-e-vest cargo pants as stylish as the site says? Should we give our bank account numbers to a Nigerian businessman that came across a large inheritance?

Sure, common sense would definitely help here, but sometimes you need to leave these choices to a higher power. Ind.ecisions, along with Mother Nature's help, hopes to win over your, well, indecision.

Ind.ecisions gives you the option to pick 2, 3, or 6 different outcomes to your question. Then, based on radio noise generated by atmospheric conditions (don't ask), you are given a truly random outcome.

Take that magic eight ball!

del.icio.us Randomizer button

del.icio.usBored? Try the new del.icio.us Randomizer button. It's a handy bookmarklet from del.icio.us that will take you to a random site that's recently been bookmarked on del.icio.us. That's it. No, really, there aren't any other features. Click, get a random site. Click again, get another random site. Oh, and if you want to see something new every time you load your browser, you could add set your browser's home page to its URL: del.icio.us/recent?random&min=10.

Tworl: Chat with a stranger

TworlFeel like talking? Nobody online? Well, there's always Tworl. With Tworl you enter a preferred age range and sex and it connects you with a random AIM who matches, or at least claims to. This seems a little scary to me, but the more adventurous may get a kick out of it. You can also add your screen name and vitals to the Tworl database to let other people be randomly connected to you. Pete Cashmore at Mashable gave the service a try, but found that none of the random people Tworl hooked him up with responded to his messages.

Remove the soul from your mix tapes with Random MixTape Maker

random mix tape makerIn my day we didn't have the fancy iTunes apps with the shuffle buttons. We had to dig into meatspace music containers and actually think about what song comes next... Ah, the lost art of the "mix tape," made for too many lost sweethearts to mention here. So if you're just too lazy to make your own mix, or thinking about hitting that shuffle button (in whatever player you're using) isn't doing it for you, maybe give Random MixTape Maker a try. In fact, this is a useful tool with some handy features. You can set a time limit, which is useful for creating those old skool CD's (you know, the Red Book ones), or set a file size limit for MP3 CD's. Even better, you can blacklist directories or songs. All this appears to work only on MP3 collections, and as far as I can tell won't do a lot if you collection is like mine, a jumble of AAC, Apple Lossless, WMA, MP3, Ogg, AIFF, and WAV files...

[Thanks mouser for the tip]

Put your screensavers on shuffle

ScreenSaver CommanderScreenSaver Commander is, I imagine, only one of dozens of apps out there (feel free to post your own in the comments) that handles the task of randomizing your Windows screensavers, and I can tell you nothing to recommend it over those others except for the size (275kb) and the price (free). It also lets you. Its other distinguishing feature is that you can configure it to prevent the screensaver from running when certain applications are open. It does a couple other things, like letting you manually set your screensaver, but like I said: size and price. Its makers, Badevlav Software, also sell a shareware app called System ScreenSaver that lets you run ordinary programs as screensavers (and minimize all other apps, if you want), but the full version will cost you $10.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
