Go Home Ball - Time Waster

Go Home BallGo Home Ball calls itself a physics game, but is really more of a time-based puzzler. Your job in the game is to get the red ball from the top of the screen, where it rolls out of an opening in a tree, to the bottom of the screen where an opening in the top of a tree trunk awaits, ensuring to collect all the gold stars along the way. Your tools to move the ball along vary across the levels, but they are typically a stick that you can temporarily lay to allow the ball to cross gaps, and a hand that you can use to nudge the ball in the correct direction.

Don't let the simple and cute appearance of the game fool you; the timing and placement for each move is crucial, and your skill with a mouse will play a big part in the success you have at the game.

(after the break, Happy Gilmore weighs in with his thoughts about balls going home...)

Chroma Circuit is a frustratingly simple puzzler - Time Waster

Adobe's Dave McAllister called me evil for killing his productivity when I suggested Assembler 3 as a Time Waster a while back.

To exact his revenge, Dave offered Chroma Circuit to me.

It looks simple enough. Click on the ships to rotate them and align the colors in the correct order. Do that, and you'll complete the circuit and pass the level.

How hard can it be? Triangles only have three sides. Squares have four. That doesn't sound so bad - until you get into the more complex boards where the play area becomes crowded with pieces.

There's always one...stinking...piece. Somewhere, right before you solve a level, that throws a wrench into the works and causes your forward progress to grind to a halt. A little backtracking and you'll move on, but not without hurting your chances of meeting the minimum moves goal.

Chroma Circuit has enough depth to keep your brain thoughtfully engaged for a decent amount of time - and the frustration level stays pretty low since you don't have to solve a level by the time you hit the magic number.

Closure is an eerie, addictive platform/puzzle hybrid - Time Waster

In Closure, if you can see it, you can walk on it. The trick is to illuminate your path all the way to a door through which you exit each level. The sketchy, hand-drawn imagery is incredibly cool.

It's not as easy as picking up a light and walking around with it. You'll have to figure out where and when to place lights to navigate safely through each trial. Certain objects mirror your light around the screen and others will take it for a ride.

Occasionally you'll find instructions scrawled on the wall. They don't always provide a lot of information, but enough to keep you going. The screenshot, for example, shows the k key - which restarts a level. Wind up where it's drawn, and you'll be pressing it.

Closure is a brilliant and original game. It's highly addictive and currently rated 8.8/10 on Newgrounds.

Here's hoping you don't lose too much time playing it.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
