Google opens up FeedBurner MyBrand to all users

google feedburner mybrandHot on the heals of Google snapping up Feedburner, features that were once free paid only are starting to be opened up to all users. For instance, Google opened up Feedburner stats, a once $5/ month subscription.

Google's second free slot in FeedBurner went to the MyBrand premium service. This once $3-$14/month service that runs all feeds through publishers own domains is now open to all users. The MyBrand service allows for content publishers to obtain a transparent branded experience when their content is accessed online. All of FeedBurners services can still be utilized, but everything will run through the publishers domain (feeds.domainnamehere.com). Publishers will be able to do this by changing the CNAME in their DNS records.

The FeedBurner MyBrand service is free and accessible through FeedBurner accounts. Activation instructions can also be found upon login as well.

Yahoo steals the mobile world, and opens it up for publishers

yahoo mobile publisher servicesHot off the presses; Yahoo keeps trucking along with its mobile announcements, this time they take aim at publishers wanting to enter the mobile market.

In continuing its mobile success streak, Yahoo is now looking for Publishers interested in providing mobile content. The newly launched Yahoo! Mobile Publisher Services is a suite of services that helps publishers increases the distribution and monetization of their content on mobile devices. The goal of this service is to deliver tools to advertisers and publishers that help them enable the growth of the mobile internet to benefit consumers. By joining, publishers will have access to the Yahoo! Mobile Ad Network, Mobile Content Engine, Mobile Media Directory and the Mobile Site Submit.
  • The Yahoo! Mobile Ad Network will enable publishers to serve syndicated advertising in mobile content, in a variety of formats including video, in game placements and sponsored links.
  • An innovative tool that Yahoo has come up with is the Yahoo! Mobile Content Engine. This will allow publishers who do not have a mobile site, the ability to create mobile content to distribute on mobile devices efficiently and effectively.
  • The Mobile Media Directory will make it easy for publishers to make their mobile media accessible through Yahoo's oneSearch, by submitting their list of products for review by Yahoo, who will then rank and review it.
  • Mobile Site Submit, like a regular web site submit, will allow mobile publishers the ability to provide information on their mobile site with a description and tags to ensure proper indexing in Yahoo oneSearch.
Talk about growth, Yahoo has been taking the mobile application world by storm lately. We will be following this one closely to see how Yahoo!'s Mobile Publisher Services really does help out publishers.

Google Reader now reports feed subscriber numbers, offers Publisher Tips page

For a long time now, Google Reader has sat in the camp with other online RSS clients who unfortunately don't (or more correctly: couldn't) report the number of readers subscribed to a feed. This of course can frustrate publishers, as they only see one collective hit from Google Reader instead of an actual number of their readers using that client.

As of this morning, however, the Official Google Reader Blog has changed all of that. In fact, the gReader team has not only enabled their crawler to report an actual number of feed subscribers, that number also includes users who are simply subscribed to a feed via Google Homepage.

Not content to stop at mere numbers, the Google Reader team have also created a Tips for Publishers page that offers ideas for best practices, feed implementation, feed "auto-discovery" and even a few catches to look out for.

It might not have been the much-requested search update that gReader users are salivating for, but these new features should certainly put a smile on most publishers' faces.
