LastPass extension for Google Chrome now available, and it rocks

A number of Download Squad readers have been echoing the same sentiment in recent posts about Google's browser: as soon as LastPass is available, we're leaving Firefox for good.

Well, gang, grab your parachutes, it's time to bail! The LastPass crew has released an alpha version of their Google Chrome extension, and it rocks. Check out the screens after the break!

RoboForm now available for Google Chrome, sort of

While it may not be the seamless solution you've been looking for, if you're a RoboForm user and have been waiting for Google Chrome integration, there's now a solution for you.

RoboForm have created a customized Chromium installer which adds a floating toolbar below the Chrome browser window. Getting set up requires two installs.

First, you'll need to load RoboForm itself (if you haven't already, of course). Next, download the RoboForm for Chromium executable from RoboForm's website. Once you've removed other Chromium instances, run the setup and launch the custom build.

A note on the download page offers this reassurance: "When Google finalizes their public extensions framework, we will make every effort to ensure that RoboForm will work for Google Chrome within a very short time."

In the meantime, RoboForm for Chromium works, even if it does look -- err -- a little different.

Hide your passwords in plain sight with Safe Calculator?

Are you the kind of person that thinks hiding your valuables in a hollowed-out book is a pretty sweet idea? If so, Safe Calculator is a Windows program that should be right up your alley.

On the surface, it appears to be the plain old Windows calculator - it's even got the full scientific mode. Oh, but it's so much more than that. Punch in your super-secret PIN and it switches to password store mode. At last, an app that allows me live out my fantasy of being a top-secret covert operative!

Safe Calculator is designed to travel with you on your USB flash drive. It's portable and the author states that stored files are encrypted, though he doesn't clarify what method is used. AES? Blowfish? Pig Latin?

Quite honestly, I don't think any of you are going to stop using something like KeePass, LastPass, or RoboForm and switch to Safe Calculator. It's just so quirky that I had to share it with you.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to hide all my cash in box of Kraft Dinner with a false bottom.

LastPass now handles logins and form filling in any browser

Since I started using LastPass, it's become one of my top three Firefox addons. Yesterday, the development team released a new feature that allows you to securely access your passwords even if you're not using the Firefox or IE plugins.

LastPass can now work from a bookmarklet - great news for users of Opera, Google Chrome, Kmeleon, or virtually any browser on any platform that supports Javascript. It even works on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

To install the bookmarklet, log in at LastPass.com and look for the icon on the left side of your control panel. Click it, and an overlay appears with three links: LastPass Login, Fill (for passwords), and Fill Forms. Just drag them to your bookmark toolbar and you're set.

Joe Siegrist of LastPass offered a rundown of how the process works:

Get CodeWallet Pro for free today only - Mobile Minute

CodeWallet ProHandango is giving away free copies of Developer One's CodeWallet Pro 6 for Windows Mobile today. CodeWallet Pro is a password and personal information manager for PDAs and Smartphones. Need to carry around a dozen different credit card numbers, computer logins, and other passwords in a secure package? CodeWallet provides encrypted, password-protected storage.

CodeWallet would normally set you back $20 to $30, but Handango seems to be giving away a free program every Friday. The download process is pretty convoluted, and you have to give up some personal information to get the free download. But that's the way these things usually go.

If CodeWallet's not your thing, it's not the only mobile wallet application on the market. You might want to check out eWallet ($30) and CryptoCard (free).

CodeWallet Pro 6 will run on Windows Mobile 2003SE and newer devices, even though the download link indicates that you need Windows Mobile 5.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
