Twitter out hunting for VC

twitter looking for vc fundingCould we soon see some crazy new developments from Twitter? Maybe not, but we might see some increased usage.

Twitter's cofounder Biz Stone recently said that Twitter is on the road to raising its first round of venture capital funding. Big news from a company who's traffic rate has leveled off, and is not yet profitable. Twitter has attracted about 226,000 unique visitors in May, compare that to 94,000 in April, but down from 397,000 in February. Still not bad for a company that only launched last winter. Twitter is extremely focused on growing their network of users before making money, and they really don't have an evident business model as of yet.

As Stefanie Olsen mentioned, could Twitter be snapped up by Google before funding goes through, as Blogger was?

So, what's everyone Twittering about?

twittermentWith Twitter garnering more and more attention every day, and more and more applications being built to take advantage of its rising popularity what exactly is everyone Twittering about?

Twitterment is in beta to let you figure out that exact answer. Twitterment mines and charts Twitter conversation data. The tool has the ability to put one or two search terms together on charts to generate data from a few days of Twitters so they can be compared and analyzed. It's a great look into the types of things that people might ramble about on their mini blogs all day long.

Will the Twitter phase ever end? It doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon. And by the looks of things, it's only begun!

Odeo now under Obvious Corp's wing

Obvious CorpObvious Corp? Curious name for a company, but this is Web 2.0, right?--At least it's not Obviousr. Obvious Corp is a brand new company founded by Blogger creator Evan Williams and his Odeo co-founder Biz Stone. As its opening move, Obvious Corp has acquired Odeo, Inc.'s assets including Odeo and Twitter. Williams explains the move in his blog, saying, "I believe there is a lot of value in what we've built-both Odeo and Twitter-but I did not believe the structure was going to lead to the kind of success we wanted. In the new company, with a new structure, and a new model, I think they are great investments." He also describes how Obvious will be doing things differently than the Web 2.0 status quo, and the Obvious web site makes clear that it will be launching new products in the future, but "not until we get our current projects on the right path and also find the right people." Having been a fan of Williams since his Blogger days, I wish him lots of success with his new venture, and look forward to seeing what Obvious Corp creates.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
