Yahoo unveils new Bookmarks site to replace MyWeb

Yahoo Bookmarks LogoFinally, Yahoo admits that it's venerable Bookmark service is in need of an update and is about to unveil a new beta version.

To compete with the other big guys (Google Bookmarks & Windows Live Favorites), this release will bring the following:
  • Advanced search functionality
  • Thumbnails for quickly recognizing sites
  • Convenient drag-and-drop management
  • Organize bookmarks with folders and tags
  • Ability to save page content along with the URL
  • Editing abilities when saving
  • An end to the 1000 bookmark limit
For those of us that are regular users of MyWeb, this list will look awfully familiar - it reads like a decent enhancement of the 'social bookmarking for the masses' service that's been out for a while now.

However, the post from the team mentions this:

"Yahoo! Bookmarks will focus on personal saving, organization, and recovery while our comrades at del.icio.us will concentrate on meeting your social bookmarking and sharing needs. For users of MyWeb, your bookmarks are safe, and in a few months you'll be able to roll over to either Yahoo! Bookmarks or del.icio.us."

I'm not sure how I feel about this - I use both MyWeb and del.icio.us, and MyWeb is clearly the easier of the 2 (especially with the integration of Yahoo 360). That said, I am happy that they have thrown their support over the acquisition as it matures.

Yahoo! updates My Web with new look, more social features

My Web UpdateYahoo! has updated their del.icio.us-like My Web bookmarking service with a fresh new look (pleasantly devoid of the over-used web 2.0 pastel palette) and more social tools geared towards helping you find new contacts, as well as what they're bookmarking. A new 'top tags' section and an 'interesting today' tab help you keep on top of the latest My Web buzz, while tag search results are now accompanied by an 'Active Taggers' list to show you which users are tagging things you're interested in, which makes it easier to add fellow My Web users who are interested in the same things you are to your contact list.

Last on the update list are enhanced searching of all public pages (not just yours and your contacts'), as well as the much-requested ability to export My Web pages to a browser-friendly format.

Overall, it looks and feels like a nice update, but My Web is still missing some fundamentals, such as clean URLs (like http://del.icio.us/tag/downloadsquad) and a bookmark menu utility like Delibar for del.icio.us, which I've mentioned over on TUAW.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
