MSNBC buys hyperlocal site EveryBlock
EveryBlock combines news updates, city press releases, business reviews, and public records including crime reports and restaurant inspections to give you a ton of information about what's going on in your city, neighborhood, city council district, or police district. Information can be arranged on a timeline or in an "overview" window which gives you the latest information in one screen.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see it expand to cover additional American cities soon. I also wouldn' tbe surprised to see a bit of advertising and MSNBC branding added to the site.
