Free music players for Windows Mobile - Mobile Minute

MortPlayerThe other day we told you about WinVibe, a new free music player for Windows Mobile devices. I started off thinking I was going to write a roundup of all the other music players for this week's Mobile Minute. But after thinking about it for a while, it occurred to me that there are just so many great free programs available that there's almost no reason to pay for music software.

That said, if you're interested in some advanced features, by all means check out Conduits Pocket Player, 40th Floor's iPlay, Nero Mobile, and PocketMind's Pocket Music. But the following programs will perform most of the same functions, and in some cases, even more.

Create and download iPod content with Mogopop

mogopop ipod contentWith all the capabilities of the worlds top MP3 player, owners have to make sure that they have access to the best content. That's where Mogopop comes into play. Mogopop is a web site where users can create and download content for iPods. Once signed up with a free account and the Mogopop Manager installed, users can choose to download content in a number of categories including People, Music, Videos, Games, Comedy, Sports, Tours/Travel, Education and Food & Drink. Most of the content on the site is amateur content like blog entries, homemade MP3s and videos but there is some pro content, including the 2007 Oscars guide and the Unofficial Macworld guide with exhibitor list and schedules that would have been great to have if you were at the show. While it's still in its infancy and there are not many items listed, this would be a great place to start creating and sharing for other iPod users. I can see this blowing up for uses like trade show guides, restaurant locations, and TV guides.

RiffTrax - Download funnier DVD commentaries

Okay, this post is admittedly off-topic, but I'm willing to bet that we have a sizable number of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans here at Download Squad. If I'm right, then all of you MST3K fans will be thrilled to find out that Mike Nelson - the comic genius behind MST3K - has launched a new site called RiffTrax, where he provides an audio commentary track to mainstream films that you can download and listen to while watching the movie.

This is pure genius from where I'm sitting, and I can't wait to try this out. The great thing about it is that it's actually going to drive rentals of some pretty terrible movies... I mean seriously; who among us was about to go rent "Roadhouse" any time soon? I know I will, now that I can hear Mike's commentary alongside it.

And for you Sci-Fi fans, the next movie he'll be riffing on is The Fifth Element. Leading the poll for the next one after that appears to be The Matrix, which I truly hope happens. It's one of my favorite films, but it's also perfect for something like this.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Forumwarz - a potentially offensive time waster

I pwn UAfter spending the better part of an hour on Forumwarz I still can't decide if it's just sick or if it's kind of fun. It's a bit like a car wreck on the highway. I know I shouldn't be looking but I can't quite turn away.

It's sick, it's twisted, it's the internet on it's worst level and darn it, it's kind of fun. At least for a little while.

Forumwarz is a parody role-playing game that takes place on the internet - or at least the Forumwarz version of it. Your goal is to complete missions that are given to you through a mock up of GoogleTalk called Sentrillion.

Your first "friend" is ShallowEsophagus who begins giving you missions to pwn various forums by being a troll. Depending on the character type you are assigned at start up, you have tools like drooling on the keyboard or bashing your head on the keyboard that you can use to destroy forum threads and eventually, pwn a forum.

Future missions involve buying illegal software from the Russians, pwning more difficult forums and other internet oddness.

Completing missions gives you cash, called Flezz in game, and items that you can pawn or use in other missions. The game is NOT for those easily offended. It's crass, coarse and there are frequent f-bombs in the fake chat sessions.

This is also a game for a more mature audience as it requires you to shop at the Drugs R Fun store to get various concoctions to improve your playing, engage in certain cyber activities to get more Flezz and just generally use a more adult perspective.

If you can get past that, here are the more enjoyable and time-wasting aspects.
