djay for Mac hits version 3, look great, sounds even greater

Mac OSX application djay, pitched as 'the world's sexiest DJ software' (I'm inclined to agree), has been updated to version 3.

Featuring a user interface that is likely to make Windows users cry in the corner and a featureset to match, djay reads your iTunes library and turns your Mac into a full on DJ system that is well suited to both beginners and professionals.

djay's range of functions really are too extensive to list here but in essence, djay allows you to drag and drop from your iTunes library and mix them either manually or using an 'automix' function. djay has full beat and tempo detection for seamless mixing, auto volume control and a range of effects you can apply to your tracks. Everything you would do on a set of turntables is here - you can even plug in a set of headphones to pre-cue the next song, and connect a microphone to do a bit of MC'ing!

djay stands out as a great example of an application really tuned for OS X - as well as that gorgeous user interface, multitouch gestures are supported if you are using a Macbook / Pro. MIDI devices can also be connected and mapped to application functions as desired.

Your hot mixes can be recorded from within the application itself for use later.

Check out a video of djay in action after the jump!

RAZZ wants bloggers to mouth off, audibly

RAZZ
RAZZ is a simple way to record and post web audio to your blog, MySpace, or other social networking site. Creating a RAZZ is a way to make a short sound clip (up to a minute long) and put it on your site. RAZZ wants to be the audio for your blog like many of the photo, video, or slideshow sharing sites. Audio has in fact been largely ignored, but is it really the next phase in the socio-digital revolution? I think it could be, but don't know if we really have a good idea of who and how many people would use audio so religiously as something like, YouTube for example. RAZZ is a good way to make this whole audio invasion thing happen, since the process is deceptively simple and even fun. See what you think of RAZZ, and while you are at it, let me know what you think about audio being the next video on social networking sites. Do you think audio snippets are a viable and viral communications tool online, or just a pipe-dream for companies who just had the idea to do it? Would you participate in audio-messaging on a site or blog? Do you already? I'm curious what the verdict here will be.

MusicIP: Free mood-matching mix software

MusicIP MixerI used MoodLogic for awhile to create playlists tailored to my moods, and it performed pretty well, but I wasn't really satisfied with the limitations of the free version. MusicIP Mixer is a free Windows app in the same vein. You choose a song from your collection and it will generate a playlist of songs that it deems similar. While you can start generating playlists as soon as it's installed, the initial algorithm, though fast, seemed wanting to me, and the subsequent (and presumably more accurate) algorithm takes a long time to analyze your songs. It does have some nice features, though, like integration with other players so you send generated playlists to Winamp or iTunes, and compatability with portable devices. It also has a built-in music-recommender that will query the web for new music you might like. Though I haven't been using it long enough to really judge the quality of its algorithms, MusicIP Mixer has a nice polished feel and is worth checking out if you're sick of assembling playlists by hand.

[Thanks, Tim!]

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
