Gmail Mute: Ignore "the thread that won't die"

Gmail MuteAmong the new Gmail features we told you about last week was another that we managed to miss out on last week, but which could surpass them all in glory: Mute! "If you're subscribed to a mailing list," says Google's help page, "you've no doubt been subjected to the 'thread that just won't die!' If you're part of a long message conversation that isn't relevant, you can 'mute' the conversation to keep all future additions out of your inbox." To mute a conversation, just strike the m key. Gmail is also smart enough to put the message in your Inbox if it's addressed directly to you, but archive the rest. You can also search for muted conversations with the keyword is:muted. Little features like this are why, despite inroads made by Microsoft and Yahoo!, Gmail is still king. You can find more information about the new Mute feature in the Gmail Help Center.

Set a price to be contacted with Boxbe email

boxbe emailImagine a time when advertisers actually had to pay you for spamming you with adverts and deals. Okay, that time is here! Liz Gannes breaks the news on an interesting new email services called Boxbe. The service, which charges marketers to email its users, launched this week. Users simply sign up and use the email to sign up for "junk" emails like contests, forms, newsletters, etc. Then when companies try to contact you, Boxbe contacts them and gives them the option of paying a fee to deliver the email to your Boxbe account. Both Boxbe and the email user will share the profit. What do you think? Would you use it?

FeedBurner for your inbox

FeedBurnerThere's a whole pile of RSS-to-Email services out there, but if anyone can break into the market it's FeedBurner, and to that end they've launched FeedBurner Email. It's a new service for publishers that lets readers get updates in their e-mail inbox rather than a feed reader. FeedBurner founder Dick Costolo says it's "largely 'brandless,'" meaning the e-mails that arrive don't look like they were delivered from your web site, not FeedBurner. Furthermore, publishers have access to subscribers' e-mail addresses (so they can leave FeedBurner Email and move to another service without a fuss) and, most impressively, the service is free.
