Logoease: quick and easy logo creation

Logoease
Logoease is a simple, web-based logo-creation tool that offers basic stock clip-art and fonts. You start by choosing a logo image from a general set of categories, and then you're taken to the main editing screen where you can add text and arrange your logo.

You can add up to five lines of text of various fonts and colors, and you can change options like bold, italics, and font size. Your logo picture can be colored, and objects can be layered with "send to front" or "send to back" functions.

When your logo is finished, you can download a zip file containing a .jpg, .eps, .tiff, and .png of your logo. You'll need to signup for a free account (surprise) to be able to download the logo. When we first tested the site, we got errors when attempting to save our logos; however, the site appears to work properly now.

Fedora 8 out today

Fedora 8
Red Hat is releasing the latest version of its Fedora Linux software today, and along with new features for users, Fedora 8 is the first version of the Fedora software that's targeted at developers who want to create their own Fedora-based Linux distributions complete with a new logo. There are already plenty of Linux distros based on other popular platforms like Ubuntu, so it kind of makes sense that if you want to get your name out there, you open the door to developers who might strip your name from the finished product.

As an end user, here are some of the changes you're more likely to notice in Fedora 8:
  • Improved printer support
  • Bluetooth enhancements
  • PulseAudio gives you more control over audio settings for different users and applications
  • GNOME Online Desktop integration
  • Better power management in the kernel
  • Better support for suspend, resume, and monitor backlighting for laptops
And if that's not doing it for you, there's already a list of proposed features for Fedora 9.

Google's logo designer gets some nice PR

google logo designer dennis hwangDennis Hwang is the webmaster from Google that designs those wicked little Google logos that seem to be changing all the time, depending on the season, and special occasion.

Dennis is getting some huge PR, as CNN is actually profiling him. Millions of people each day see this guys work when they visit the Google search page. Hwang started mucking with the Google logo way back in 2000 when he started as an intern and developed a special Fourth of July logo. Even though he only spends 20% of his time working on the logos, they always turn out awesome!

Picking a font for your Web 2.0 logo

Web 2.0 logosCloset typography geek that I am, Logos of Web 2.0 at Stephen Coles' FontFeed blog tickles my fancy. He's dissected a few dozen Web 2.0 logos that you might recognize from this image that's been floating around and picked out some font trends. If you need a logo for your newest start-up, it's veritable guide to making a modern web site logo. VAG Rundschrift and Arial Rounded Bold are particularly popular in the "softies" category, but Coles has you covered if you're looking for a futuristic or classical look instead.
