Tweetie 2.0 coming soon for iPhone and Mac

The popular Twitter client Tweetie -- available for both Mac and iPhone -- is getting a major overhaul.

Tweetie 2.0 for iPhone is built on the same framework -- dubbed "Bigbird" the Mac version enjoyed, stripped to essentials and updated. The new version also promises a complete offline mode with caching of tweets and the ability to remember exactly where you left off. It also fully supports landscape mode, gestures and even has a complete draft mode that can send updates to Birdhouse. Whew!

Some other cool features include:
  • Saved searches
  • Better threaded conversations
  • Link to iPhone address book
  • Multiple attachment support
  • Hashtag picker
  • Short URL previews
Former Download Squad'er Christina Warren managed to sneak in a preview for Mashable, which looks rather promising. Tweetie 2.0 for iPhone is coming soon and will cost $2.99. The Mac version update will be free.

Flip your screen and touchpad from landscape to protrait with EeeRotate

Sometimes when I'm reading an article or ebook I'd prefer to have my notebook's 1280 pixels in height rather than width. While most display drivers are capable of handling that task, they don't do anything about the orientation of the touchpad. My brain's on-the-fly directional translation gizmo isn't always reliable, so a single application is a better solution for me.

EeeRotate (link via Google Translate) is a handy little freeware app that combines two previous free efforts - iRotate, which handles the screen and SakasaMouse, which takes care of the touchpad. Launch Eeerotate, and you can quickly flip your screen clockwise or counter-clockwise by pressing ctrl + alt + right (or left, respectively).

There's not much to see, as you can tell from the screenshot - the app just gets out of your way and does what it needs to do.

Eeerotate runs on just about any version of Windows, XP or newer, including 64-bit builds.

Terragen: free Bryce knock-off lets you make your own world

terragenWhile I was blogging about making your own ILM yesterday one of my students tipped me off to Terragen (thanks Aaron). The more I saw of it the more it reminded me of Bryce. Terragen, like Bryce, is a special-purpose 3d app for creating amazingly realistic landscapes. It's terribly easy to use, even for 3d newbies. If you've ever banged your head on Maya, give it a try. Very refreshing. Not only that, it is free for now. No guarantees about the future, but I haven't seen any real problems with it so far. Terragen is chock full of features, some of which I don't see in Bryce (like a scripting engine). And you can't argue with the results... Oh, and it's available for OS X and Windows.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
