10 worst (and real) web app names

FairtilizerThe folks over at Read/WriteWeb have put together a pretty compelling list of the 10 worst names for web 2.0 sites. All are real web services, and all are really bad names, for a variety of reasons.

Here's a snippet of R/WW's list.
  • Fairtilizer is an online music community with a bafflingly unattractive name.
  • Agester - how many sites must add a -ster to their name?
  • Profilactic is a site that aggregates feeds, but we had to read the description a few dozen times before we could pay attention to anything but the site name
  • iStalkr creates a stream of data from your RSS feeds including Digg, Flickr etc that you can share with others. But it's got a kind of frightening name, not to mention the me-too omission of the letter "e."
Sure, it's hard to come up with a good name that hasn't been used before. But is it really that hard? What are some of the poor excuses for a name you've run across in your Web 2.0 wanderings? And what new names would you give to the services above or other cool web sites with unfortunate names?

You too can be a nosy neighbor with iStalkr

stalk friends with istalkrWho's up for a little stalking? Its ok, no Britney Spears stalking, just some RSS and ATOM feed stalking. iStalkr is out of beta and ready for users to create a world of spying and nosiness.

iStalkr is a web application that creates a "lifestream" that will track RSS and ATOM feeds from a variety of services that you might use throughout the day including Digg, Del.icio.us, Flickr, Google Reader and Twitter over a time line. From that point, you can choose to paste a time line of data into a website or blog to let people know what you are up to, or monitor other people's timelines to see what they have been up to.

It's a pretty cool application, but really doesn't serve any other purpose.. Sure its great to see how many times someone twitters, when they check out their news feeds, and how many times they Digg something throughout the day, but it's just another fluffy Web 2.0 gadget.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
