iTunes music store now selling two-song "Digital 45s"

Apple's iTunes Music Store is taking digital music back to the old-school, offering two-song packages as "Digital 45s." Just like the old records, Digital 45s have an A-side and a B-side. That means that for $1.50-$2.00, you're buying a hit by a major artist, along with a lesser-known track you might not already have.

The first crop of 40 or so D45s includes major artists like Michael Jackson, R.E.M. and Coldplay. A lot of them have vinyl-themed album artwork, some come with PDF booklets, and many have songs I couldn't find anywhere else on the iTunes store. If you're going to pay $1.29 for the major hits anyway, you might as well chuck in that extra 30 to 70 cents for the D45s and check out the B-side. That's what Apple's hoping you'll do, anyway.

Apple releases iTunes 7, goes Hollywood

Whew. After spending an hour rapid-fire reloading the Engadget live blog coverage of Apple's "It's Showtime" special event, my fingers are tired, my eyeballs are fried and I'm full of Apple vitriol.

For starters, Apple announced iTunes 7. It's not just a little facelift, there are some seriously cool new features that are useful even to those of us who aren't into movies. Yep, movies. Did I mention that iTunes will now sell movies online from Disney, Pixar, Touchstone and Miramax? Seventy-five titles to kick things off, with prices ranging from $9.99 to $12.99. Our buddies at TUAW have already rolled up their sleeves and written a complete walk-through of the new iTunes version 7.

Who wants to watch movies at a dinky 320x240 resolution? No one, and definitely not Jobs... So they've upgraded resolution on iTunes video downloads from that dinky 320x240 to a really respectable 640x480. Hi-res is the new black.

Apple really, totally, definitely doing an iTunes Video Store

iTunes 5 video iconAfter years of speculation, Ars Technica is calling it "official": Apple is going to open an iTunes Video Store. Their proof? Graphics ripped from the bowels of iTunes 5 which include "Buy Video," "Gift Video," and "Add Video" buttons. Though I personally prefer to wait for the press release before throwing around a word like "official,", it does look pretty convincing. It remains to be seen, however, what kind of video they'll be selling. Movies? Concert videos? TV episodes? The Star Wars Holiday Special?

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
