Find a support community with DailyStrength

DailyStrength
Mix one part MySpace with one part 43Things and one part AA and you end up with DailyStrength.

DailyStrength is a collection of communities focused on users supporting each other in whatever hardships they are facing in life. From Lung Cancer to Depression to Parenting: there is a community for everyone. Communities are built around members with sections for posting discussions, recommendations, advice, and news. You can even send each other virtual hugs, which are like Facebook pokes but without the antagonistic feel.

There is even a community for Internet Addicts, which, clearly, is how we find the site in the first place.

Inpowr can help you explore and discover, you

inpowr exploring and discovering youWith so many obstacles in your daily life, its sometimes hard to organize and plan every step. Inpowr wants to be there for you.

Inpowr is currently in beta mode, and attending the Web 2.0 conference this week in San Francisco. Their online platform is a location for self discovery, helping users plan every aspect of their lives. Goals can be set, and things that you want changed in your life can be noted, with other users supporting you if you so choose. The system takes into consideration the well being of users and measures progress made, so that goals can be met. After all is said and done, experiences can be shared so that others can learn from you.

Sounds like a pretty interesting online self discovery service, once we are on the beta look out for a full review to see if this is a service that does what it says it can.

Google's sekrit plans revealed

GoogleGoogle Blogoscoped has published a summary of an apparently-leaked internal Google memo that outlines the Big G's secret plans to breed evil radioactive mutant rats, er, take over the world, er, make a ton of money this year. To summarize the summary, this year Google planned to:

  • Improve infrastructure and make engineers more productive with uber-search tools
  • Build 10MW of green power toward its goal of becoming carbon-neutral
  • Become the best in search (duh), which includes building the world's top AI lab, eliminating spam, and launching products with UIs that "that people love"
  • Sell lots of ads, with a goal of $1 billion in new business this year
  • Expand communities and content, in particular video
  • Push Google Pack deployment
  • "Increase the scale of innovation"
  • Test a "radically improved" Google News prototype in Q4

There's lots more in Google Blogscoped's report, so if you're a Googleholic like us I don't recommend missing it.

A Joe's Goal badge for your web site

Joe's Goals badgeI think I've mentioned about a dozen times how much I like Joe's Goals, and I can't help waving my arms every time its creator, Ian Smith, drops in another great new feature. Today that feature is a brand new badge that embeds a chart of your recent goal activity in any web page, like your blog or MySpace page. To create a badge, just sign into Joe's Goals, click on Preferences in the upper right, and then scroll down to the Preferences page. There you can select which layout, horizontal or vertical, you want for your badge, and configure its width and height to your liking. The badge was actually created by Joel Seligstein, a student and enthusiastic Joe's Goals fan. Now you can show off how well you're keeping to your goals, which you may regret if you start to lag behind.

Joe's Logbook: Take goals to the next level

Joe's Logbook
Awhile back I wrote about Joe's Goals, a super-streamlined site for keeping track of your daily goals. I've been meaning to post about it again, because though I liked the site immediately, it wasn't until about a month later that I started really using it and discovering how incredibly useful it is. Now Ian Smith, the "Joe" of Joe's Goals, has launched Joe's Logbook, a companion site that's integrated with Joe's Goals and lets you track your life's ups and (if you please) downs with a little more specificity. Its interface looks very much like the Joe's Goals grid, except that instead of just clicking to add checkmarks, you can enter specific information that you want to log, like what exercises you did today or what you ate. Other uses suggested by the site are dream log, writing journal, or travelogue. Of course, like Joe's Goals, Joe's Logbook's utility lies not in its robustness but its simplicity, which is perfect if you want a web app that will let you take quick notes while staying out of your way, but perhaps less so if you're looking to write your memoirs. By the way, if you already have a Joe's Goals account, you don't need a new account for Joe's Logbook. Just log into Joe's Goals as usual and click on "Add Logbook" at the top of the grid.

P.S. I'm happy to report that Ian/Joe finally has a blog.

Track your tasks with Rough Underbelly

Rough UnderbellyRough Underbelly is a free web-based task-tracker along the same lines as Joe's Goals and with just as much Ajax but with a different, very Web 2.0 interface. Like Joe's Goals, Rough Underbelly is for tracking stuff you want to do every day, like working out, signing new clients, or working on the yard. You can create tasks and assign them point values (10, 5, 2, or 1), and then each day when you complete a task you can click the checkbox next to it, which will move it out of the TODO area. Rough Underbelly generates pretty graphs that shows what you've accomplished, broken up by point value, and it also has a handy timer for keeping track of how much time you've spent on a task. So far I still prefer Joe's Goals due to its "negative" goals feature and the ability to mark a single goal several times, but Rough Underbelly will probably be a better solution for certain users.

Joe's Goals: Super simple goal-tracking

Joe's Goals

The moment I saw Joe's Goals, I knew I liked it. It's not a social goal-tracker like 43 Things or another to-do list app-rather, it's web-based goal-minder with a great interface for your daily goals. Joe's Goals is for tracking how many times you've worked out this week, how many times you ate out, or how many blog posts you've made. The interface is a simple grid with two kinds of goals: Good (worked out) and bad (skipped class). Clicking on a grid square will add a checkmark (good goals) or an X (bad ones) icon, and clicking on an icon makes it disappear. You can add as many as you want to any grid square, and at the bottom of the grid, your accomplishments are tallied for a "daily score." And to keep yourself honest, you can share your goals with your friends. One thing I really like about Joe's Goals is that at the very top of the front page, before you've registered or signed in, there's a demo grid that you can play with to get a feel for the service. Cool, Joe.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
