Confused about Google Wave? Now you can read the bleeping manual.

Google Wave is an innovative new communication tool, but part of innovation is that it's not always intuitive to use. Early adopters have been jumping into Wave with little guidance on how to take advantage of all its features. I guess you could watch the 90-minute Wave video, but that's not exactly a quick-start guide.

Well, there's a saying almost as old as computers themselves, and it goes: RTFM. Read the, um, flippin' manual. Now Google Wave has a flippin' manual that you can read, but it's not from Google: it's from Lifehacker's Gina Trapani and Adam Pash. Sounds a lot better than "watch the frickin' 90-minute video," eh?

Gina and Adam's guide is quickly making the rounds on the web, being promoted by the likes of Mashable. I'd like to add Download Squad's endorsement to the list. The Complete Guide to Google Wave is a straightforward, well-organized volume that goes a long way toward demystifying a new and complex tool. It's available to read online for free, but you'll be able to buy it as a DRM-free PDF soon, and in print in January.

Still don't have Wave? Go throw your name in the hat for Download Squad's Great Google Wave Invite Giveaway.

GTD Wiki for Bloggers by Gina Trapani and Barb Dybwad

Blog Tools wikiWeblogs Inc.'s own Barb Dybwad teamed up with Gina Trapani of Lifehacker fame this past week at the BlogHer conference to give a session called Blogging Workflow and Tips - Gina called it "how the hell to update your blog 12 times a day and still have a life".

While it would have been wonderful to be able to experience the session first hand, we'll have to be satisfied with browsing the wiki Barb and Gina set up to organize links to their favorite tools. There's also some brief commentary on various information management styles, and tips on how to handle information overload. For a small wiki, this one's packed with great information.

How to make a minimal Firefox

Consolidate Firefox's chrome

In her never-ending quest for interface perfection, Lifehacker Gina Trapani has written a great Geek to Live tutorial called Consolidate Firefox's chrome. In it she teaches you how to pare down Firefox's menus, toolbar, address back, and bookmarks toolbar until all that's left is what you absolutely need. To be specific, you'll learn how to eliminate entire menus from the menubar, how to keep toolbar buttons hidden when they're not available, get rid of the Go and Search buttons, and how to organize your bookmarks for maximum accessibility and minimum clutter. The tutorial does require you to edit Firefox's userChrome.css, so if that makes you squeamish, well... now's as good a time as any to get over it.

Automatically backup important files to e-mail

Gmail BackupLifehacker Gina Trapani has written a great tutorial for automatically e-mailing yourself file backups. While e-mail isn't a great place to store an entire system backup, my 2.7 GB of Gmail space is enough to store my My Documents folder 50 times over, and being able to securely access important files from anywhere is priceless. As with many of Lifehacker's tutorials, the process takes some fiddling, but uses free software and gets the job done.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
