Firefox Flicks winners announced: Wheee!

Firefox Flicks winners

Last week Mozilla Corp. finally announced the winners of the Firefox Flicks contest, in which independent filmmakers submitted short ads promoting the open source darling web browser. The grand prize winner, selected by "accomplished entertainment and advertising judges including the talents behind Charlie’s Angels, American Pie, and Six Feet Under," is "Daredevil," by Pete Macomber (on the left in the photo above) which sports the memorable tagline "My other browser is a surfboard." Macomber's ad will be short-listed at the NY Festival of Advertising's 2006 International Advertising Awards later this month. Second place was taken by humorous fan favorite "Wheee!" by Jeff Gill (on the right). Take a look at the press release for the other finalists.

Firefox ad contest

firefox flicksMozilla Corp. and the Vail Film Festival have teamed up to create a Firefox ad contest called "Firefox Flicks." The contest involves creating a killer ad for Firefox, then having said ad judged by some Hollywood folks, and hopefully winning loot and exposure. What Hollywood folks? McG (Charlie's Angels) is on the list, as is Freddy Rodriguez (Six Feet Under), plus Warren Zide, the brains behind the American Pie and Final Destination juggernauts. But of course, you want to know what loot you can win, right? Top prize is a $5,000 gift certificate to B&H. Second place is one of those swanky 9x triple-LCD screens, and third prize is an Alienware Media Center PC. Personally, I'm more about the exposure, because those Hollywood types know talent when they see it... Sort of. The leading ads will be shown at the Vail festival though, if that floats your boat. Naturally there's a wealth of banners, and more stuff on the Firefox Flicks blog.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
