Mozilla release mockups for upcoming Firefox Linux releases

Firefox 4.0 Linux mockup
The folks at Mozilla have released the first mockup showing what Firefox 4.0 may look like on Linux... and it looks an awful lot like the Windows version.

Firefox 4.0 isn't due out for another year or so, but the developers have already stated a few goals for the project. One idea is to move the browser tabs above the location bar. Another is to consolidate the menus into a few tabs that will hang out next to the location bar. Both movies will free up space, allowing more of the browser to be dedicated to displaying web pages.

If the end result looks familiar, that's because it looks an awful lot like the default layout in the Google Chrome web browser.

Mozilla has also released some mockups of Firefox 3.7 for Linux. One of the most notable changes is that the interface will be more consistent across platforms. Firefox 3.7 for Linux will use the same Forward/Back buttons as the Mac and Windows versions, for example. The edges of the browser, tabs, and other elements will also be curved rather than angled, which will make the browser look more like the mac and Windows versions.

At this point, both the Firefox 3.7 and 4.0 mockups represent proposed changes and not finished products, so things may change by the time these browsers are actually released.

Firefox 4.0 scheduled for late 2010 launch

Firefox 4.0 mockup
A few weeks back, some enterprising folks at Mozilla posted a mockup showing what Firefox 4.0 could look like. The navigation area has been redesigned to give users more screen real estate, while the tab bar has been moved above the location bar to resemble the layout in the Google Chrome web browser. Of course, this is just a concept at this point and the final browser could end up looking very different. But now we have a rough idea of when to expect Firefox 4.0: October or November 2010.

Mozilla has reportedly updated its product roadmap with plans to launch Firefox 3.6 later this year and version 3.7 in the second quarter of 2010. The next major release will be Firefox 4.0, which is due out late next year.

There's not a lot of additional information about new features in each version of the browser, but you can download pre-release builds of both Firefox 3.6 and 3.7 from Mozilla's FTP.

I haven't been able to dig up the new roadmap on Mozilla's site yet, but TG Daily reports that Mozilla also plans to launch Fennec 1.0, the mobile version of Firefox at the same time as Firefox 3.6. Fennec 2.0 will be due out late next year when Firefox 4.0 is launched. Of course, a lot can change in 13 months.

If anyone has a direct link for the roadmap let us know in the comments.

Mozilla teases us with Firefox 4.0 mockups

Firefox 4.0 mockup
Mozilla drummed up a fair amount of interest in a future version of the Firefox web browser a few weeks ago by posting a mockup photo showing a handful of new features that could be included in Firefox 3.7. But the Firefox team is looking even further ahead. Yesterday a few images of a Firefox 4.0 mockup hit the Mozilla Wiki.

One image shows a Google Chrome-like tab menu which actually hangs out above the navigation bar. This layout saves space, providing you with more room for the browser window. But it also involves removing the page title bar.

Another concept shows a combination stop/refresh/go button attached to the location bar. When you're typing a URL, you'll see a green arrow button that you can hit to visit the URL in question. While a page is still loading, you'll see a red X button that you can hit to stop the page from loading. And when you're already on a web site, it'll show a refresh arrow.

These are just concepts at the moment, and may or may not eventually make their way into the web browser.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
