How to make Windows Mobile more like Windows - Mobile Minute

PocketWinI'm going to let you in on a little secret. A 3.5-inch screen is much smaller than a 15.4-inch screen. I know it's shocking, but there it is.

Forget the processor, the memory, the battery life, and all the other things that make your PDA or smartphone different from a notebook computer. One of the biggest reasons PalmOS and Windows Mobile are designed to look the way they are is because you need to fit the most vital information on a tiny screen.

Good, now that we've got that out of the way, let's take a look at some ways you can make your Windows Mobile PDA look more like a full desktop operating system. Under the hood, you'll still be running Windows Mobile, which means you've got the advantages of instant on/off and long battery life (compared with a laptop). But your friends will think you've got Windows XP or Vista on your phone.

Experience Project, 43things meets MySpace

Experience ProjectThe Experience Project is a site where you can anonymously share your life experiences in a very web 2.0 (social) way. The site reminds me of 43things, where you list your goals, but the Experience Project is a bit different. You can join groups that align with things you have experienced, have not experienced, or plan to in the future. You can meet up with people (anonymously), share your plans, secrets, dreams, and well, experiences with everyone. In the interest of anonymity, the site will even automatically blur a picture of you as your icon, so you are not recognizable to everyone else. You might find the site interesting or just downright annoying, it is hard to tell. If nothing else, go check out the software this site uses. It is interesting, not to mention the notion of why anyone would ever want to share things like this on the web. Two words: morbid curiosity.

Thanks Arron!

AMD's virtual tradeshow experience

AMD tradeshow
AMD has put together one of the most rich and engaging Internet presentations I have ever seen. Built in Flash, this "virtual experience" as they call it is quite impressive. AMD's virtual trade show is a great idea and makes you want to explore. Microsoft, Oracle, Novell, IBM, and others are among the booths at this "event" where you can watch keynotes, presentations, and even a virtual parody of sports center called "datacenter" at the AMD booth. AMD even showcases their processors in a boxing match with Intel's chips, using benchmarked specs. While this whole online experience is obviously a marketing move, AMD does a great job talking about their chips in a way that makes sense and is visually and aesthetically appealing. If you have a few minutes check it out. I learned more about AMD and their chips in a few minutes than I would have browsing their website, and all that without even trying. You can even get a virtual badge for yourself while you're there.

Google CEO joins Apple Board of Directors

eric schmidt joins apples board of directorsApple announced yesterday that Google CEO Eric Schmidt has joined the ranks on Apple's Board of Directors. "Apple is one of the companies in the world that I most admire," said Eric Schmidt. "I'm really looking forward to working with Steve and Apple's board to help with all of the amazing things Apple is doing." Likewise, Steve Jobs praised Schmidt, saying, "Eric is obviously doing a terrific job as CEO of Google, and we look forward to his contributions as a member of Apple's board of directors."

Just imagine the outcomes in the marketplace now that these extra ties have been made between Google and Apple. These two companies full of innovation and market domination can together create some very cutting edge products and services--I wonder what Microsoft thinks about this news.

AjaxWp - An AJAX enhancement for WordPress blogs

AjaxWp - An AJAX enhancement for WordPress blogsI remember being excited at the AJAX enhancements to WordPress's admin back end with the last major 2.0 update, but what about the front end theme and UI? Unless you either do some digging and find an AJAX'ed theme or build one yourself, your WordPress blog will look just as boring as everyone else's. Right?

Wrong: AjaxWp brings some UI sexiness to your WordPress blog. Basically, through minimal configuration, this WordPress plugin brings that no-page-refresh effect to your entire blog. There are actually two basic configuration options, 'quick' and 'optimized', and the author has posted extensive instructions for both. Optimized, as you might expect, is a more efficient method and offers a smaller footprint, but requires a bit more PHP ninja work, so chose wisely, young padawan.

AjaxWp is offered from Gianni Milanesi's blog, and as you might expect, it's used on the blog itself so you can see it in action before you start digging into your own site.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
