Paint with light using Glow Doodle

Glow Doodle is a quirky drawing app that lets you draw with light, and you can try out if you've got a webcam. If you've ever taken a photograph of something moving and seen the streak effect, you'll get how it works. Open up the app, and get some kind of light source, like a cellphone, and move it around in the air. It will leave a trail, and you'll have a light drawing.

The controls for Glow Doodle are pretty simple: click to clear, s to save, and space to upload to the online collection of glowdoodles. Experiment with different objects to see what kind of results you get. The reflection from my glasses worked pretty well, and I imagine a shiny watch face would be pretty good, too. I didn't have a laser pointer on hand - I know, I'm such a bad geek - but I'd like to try different light colors and see how those work.

Sketch + broadcast = Sketchcast

Sketchcast screen shot
Another online sketch service, Sketchcast, has entered the market and this one has a couple of neat YouTube-like integration features. Record yourself creating a sketch, add a voice over if you like, then save it for posterity. Once you're done, Sketchcast automatically spits out a URL that you can send to others and a code you can embed in your own Web site or blog post. Sketchcast also gives you your own channel where you can store your sketches so other people can view them or subscribe to your RSS feed.

Skrbl online whiteboard

skrbl online whiteboard

Skrbl is a very easy to use online whiteboard. The application lets users jot down notes, sketches, upload pictures and share files in a browser. Users can sign up for a free account and start a whiteboard creating text, drawing and importing gif and jpg images. The drawing tool is kind of crude, and not that accurate, but good for getting your point across. Text is as expected, with fonts, font sizes, alignment and colors to choose from. Files can be saved as HTML and to a print view. When complete, or for collaboration, files cans be shared by inviting others through email, or by sending out a unique URL.

Draw: an open-source online drawing program

Draw

Say you need the ability to add a drawing program to your website. It could be very time consuming and expensive to have one written. Instead, why not install Draw, an open source online drawing program released by Cumulate Labs. Check out the demo of this very full-featured drawing program powered by Ajax.

Draw offers basic shapes as well as flow-chart shapes, so it can be used as a poor-man's Visio in a pinch. It also allows for text labeling, color fills, and all the other drawing tools you'd expect to find in a drawing program.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
