Fobfire lets you "slip her the fob"

Ever do online dating? Come on, fess up to that match.com subscription you've been meaning to cancel for the last six months, and we'll get you hooked up with another 2.0 social site that's, well, different. Consider one of the testimonials from Fobfire:

I only had a few seconds. I was getting
off the subway and she was getting on, but our eyes met and it clicked. So I slipped her a fob!

The way this web site works, you get a set of tokens, called "fobs", which you can hand out to people in order to hook them up with one of your several fobfire identities: there are fobs for business, fobs for personal, and fobs for dating. The theory goes, when you meet somebody with whom you want to socially network, you hand them a fob, sort of like a key to get into the correct Fobfire profile, so they only see the info you want to see, depending on the kind of relationship you want to set up with them.

Ah, the potential for fun. Imagine accidentally handing a dating fob to a potential business client. Of course, as our own Brad Linder put it in a discussion we had earlier, "Once you hand somebody anything called a fob I don't think you really need to worry about them visiting your dating profile."

I couldn't agree more.

Match.com lets you flirt from your phone

Match MobileDating website Match.com thinks you aren't distracted enough by the prospect of finding love through your computer. So they're launching a Match Mobile.

For $5 per month, you can search through mobile profiles and create your own. If you've already got a regular Match.com account you can transfer it to Match Mobile.

Once you find someone you'd like to stalk find out more about, you can send a request to start an anonymous chat. If you're still not convinced Match Mobile is worth $5 of your money, check out the kind of creepy video the company's put together to show how you can try to get lucky while waiting for business meetings to start.

iminlikewithyou, an interesting new look at online flirting

iminlikewithyou new world social flirtingThis online "flirting" game is all based on competitions. Users make up games to lure potential flirts in where winners are chosen and contact can be made.

iminlikewithyou is all about flirting, well, the art of flirting. Users sign up for the service and answer a few basic questions about themselves. Photos can be added as well as other personal information to be rewarded with valuable flirting points.

After the initial setup, its time to play games. This is done by checking out potential mates that have games in progress, and bidding on them against others in an attempt to grab the attention of the prize, while watching the progress unfold online and on mobile devices.

This interesting new look at the dating social scene is another website that utilizes Amazons EC2 and S3 services as their infrastructure. iminlikewithyou is currently in a closed beta.

Social Networking by WeHangHere

wehanghereWeHangHere is a different kind of social networking site. It helps users hook up with like minded individuals that hit the same locations after hours. The official launch date of the service was in October 2006, and it currently has a strong hold in the European market, with a small penetration in North America. Users of the site can search for a venue based on a specific city, or venue name. Members can also search either by username, or by gender, age and town and city locations. If you have your head buried in books, or in your career, it can be quite difficult to meet up with like minded individuals that enjoy the same types of locations. Or if you don't know the locations to hit, you can browse the site looking for one that might be your style.

I wouldn't call it a dating site per say, but user profiles, or essential info as WHH calls them, consist of age, height, education, language, occupation, country, children, favorite drink, relationship, like to hang with, and looking for, as well as a list of locations the user frequents. This helps users get a better idea of what types of locations they should frequent to meet up with similar individuals. Another player in this type of market includes Meetup.com. Although it does not specifically target clubs and bars as WeHangHere tends to do.

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire.
