Help us Obi-Wan - Holographic teleconferencing is closer

Holographic TeleconferencingMusion Systems and Cisco Networks may be bringing our dreams to life.

Ever not want to attend a meeting in person? Ok, dumb question. But you've never had an option, unless you lied and said you got stung by 100 bees, or were contaminated in some way. But even at that, you'd have to eventually provide SOME proof.

Well, the future of laziness may be closer than we think.

This HAS to be too good to be true.

Maybe, but maybe not. With some fancy cameras and IP networks, you can have people on stage at an event or meeting that are not even there! Zuck could have done his SXSW keynote from Ecuador! And he would have been able to see the audience just like he was there!

These two companies have teamed up to create the Cisco On-Stage TelePresence Experience using technologies from each.

The possibilities are ENDLESS. Don't want to visit mom? No problem, hologram yourself to the Church group brunch. Have a long distance relationship? Feel closer than iChat with someone.

We're not sure when this is going to happen but we hope to get a Beta invite.

Check out this awesomesauce demo video.

Cisco picking up a stake in VMWare

Cisco, ever looking to stick its stubby fingers in a winning pie, is acquiring a stake in VMWare, makers of the ever popular line of machine virtualization software.

According to the press release, "Upon closing of the investment, the computer-networking company will own about 1.6 percent of VMware's total outstanding common stock. Palo Alto, Calif.-based VMware also agreed to consider the appointment of a Cisco executive to its board in the future"

Virtualization is becoming a hot commodity, and VMWare is in a healthy position to capitalize. Everyone wants to be on the winning team, eh?

UK is on the move to create an Internet Monster

uk internet monsterTony Blair, UK's Prime Minister, is on the move to create an internet monster. He has been spending some time recently in Silicon Valley with some of California's biggest minds, picking their brains.

Blair is on the hunt to figure out how the US's tech sector has created some of the biggest worldwide players in the internet industry. Some of the people Blair has met with include Steve Jobs of Apple, John Chambers of Cisco Systems, and Jonathon Schwartz of Sun Microsystems.

Even though there are some great internet companies that are starting to emerge from the UK, they might still have to learn the golden rule of the valley. Risk Taking is a virtue, and failure is not seen as a black x.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
