Twitzap: realtime Twitter updates, channels and more

Twitzap is a web interface for Twitter that works like an application. It automatically refreshes your twitter stream and any channels (basically, saved searches) you subscribe to, and keeps track of how many unread messages you have in each channel. It's also got a lot of other neat little improvements over the standard web interface, some of which Twitter should probably look into adopting for itself.

Channels are the main perk of Twitzap, and it treats your @replies and direct messages as channels, too, combining your incoming and outgoing DMs into one neat list. You can also quickly add trending topics to your channels from right in the sidebar. Other features including chatting over Twitzap with other users who are logged in and a retweet button for each tweet, next to favorite and reply.

The overall interface of Twitzap looks a lot like regular Twitter -- it even uses your Twitter background when you log in -- so it should be very easy to get the hang of using. I'll be honest: I expected to be writing an "oh god, not another Twitter client" review here, but Twitzap really does have some good ideas.

Hulu adds channels for sorting videos by genre

Hulu Channels
Online video site Hulu now has more than 900 TV and movie titles from over 100 content providers. And to be perfectly honest, it was starting to get a bit tough to find what you were looking for. Now Hulu has rolled out a feature it probably should have had all along: channels.

Channels let you sort videos by genre, including action and adventure, anime, science fiction, comedy, news, and home and garden.

Hulu has also rolled out a few other new features including the ability to conduct searches by actor and discussion forums for particular programs or episodes.

Supercharge Photoshop Elements: channels and layers and masks, oh, my!

Photoshop Elements is a great program for beginning photographers, but it lacks some basic functionality advanced users expect. One enterprising user, though, has developed a workaround to approximate some of the more glaring omissions. Elements Tools is a set of Photoshop elements actions that gives some basic options for channel mixing, color balance, curves, layer mask, and quick mask, as well as some element alignment tools. Installation is manual, so you'll have to be comfortable navigating the application folder and deleting cache files by hand, but the effort is worth it if you're ready to move to the next level of photo editing, but aren't ready to spring for Photoshop yet.

The author also has a nice tutorial on rolling your own filters, if you'd like to customize things even more.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
