Get your childs immunization reminders online

immunization reminders onlineNeedles are icky, kids hate them, but the fact is they do protect against harmful diseases and sickness.

A recent study showed that 90% of parents are convinced that their kid's shots are up to date, however in reality only 61% are.

A new online service for Canadian residents allows parents to set up and track their child's immunization records and receive a reminder two weeks before it's due. Canadian Immunization set up this free service that not only tracks and reminds of vaccinations, but also explains what shots are for, how they work and why children need them.

The online immunization service advises parents to be cautious, the tool isn't for every child. If your child is in a high risk group that includes kids with sickle cell anemia, cancer, cystic fibrosis, or other chronic diseases you are advised that there are different immunization requirements for your child and, you should stick to the old school and consult your physician.

Internet could change the world (circa 1993)

There's this new thing called "internet" that apparently lets jocks from all over the world talk about football. I love found footage.

This is apparently a CBC report from 1993 on the growth of the internet. I think it's cute how they don't refer to it as "the internet," but rather just "internet. The explanation of emoticons, and how to read them is precious.

And did you know that it's possible for people to use the internet to spread confidential information? Shocking.

Perhaps the most surprising thing about this report from 14 years ago is that there's no ominous music over a graphic of young children looking at a computer screen filled with pornography. I chalk that up to this being a Canadian broadcast.

Netvibes blog new international versions
The folks over at Netvibes have been very busy as of late. In the last few weeks they've released 10 new international versions of their "customizable Web 2.0 home page/portal solution" (buzzwords aside, it's a terrific service). If you haven't given it a try yet, perhaps one these new versions will entice you: Greek, Turkish, Quebecer, Ukrainian, Russian, Danish, Canadian, Polish, Brazilian and UK.

If you want to help Netvibes to build a local version for your country, I'm sure they would be thrilled if you contact them.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
