TrialPay launches 'TheBigBundle' charity bundle

Trialpay
, specialists in providing commercial software for free in return for completing partner offers, have launched 'TheBigBundle', a $29.99 / $49.99 bundle of software / discounts in which 100% of the profits are donated to the American Cancer Society.

The bundle - which is priced at $29.99 with an optional additional $20 donation - includes a somewhat strange mix of benefits worth a total of over $700, ranging from a $10 Papa Johns gift card for the first 2,500 buyers to a free copy of Cyberlink MediaShow 5, valued at $49.95.

Buyers can receive a 50% discount on the bundle by becoming a fan of the bundle on Facebook and changing their profile picture which, while a good way to save money, seems somewhat against the spirit of the charitable donation. Buyers can also receive the bundle completely free by applying for (and being approved for) a Discover card.

TheBigBundle runs for 14 days from midnight last night or until the 100,000th bundle is sold - whichever comes first.

MacHeist Bundle vs MacUpdate Promo

MacUpdate Promo
There are currently two great software bundles now available for Mac OS X: the MacHeist Bundle and MacUpdate's Promo bundle. Both offer a collection of commercial Mac apps, and both offer great savings by purchasing the apps bundled instead of separately. Here is a quick breakdown of both bundles and our recommendation if you can have only one.

MacUpdate Promo
The initial bundle costs $64.99 (USD) and includes the following:

  • Hazel - folder organization, trash emptying, app cleaning,
  • Leap - Spotlight replacement that supports tagging
  • ArtText - create pretty, artistic text (for headings, banners, etc.) from predefined or custom styles
  • DVDRemaster Pro - compress DVD's to DVD5 (4.7GB) and convert DVD's to iPod formats
  • Typinator - repetitive text and image replacement
  • StoryMill - organization app for novel writing
  • MenuCalendarClock - iCal access via the menubar

Divx Pro 6 bundle available free

Divx Pro Bundle freeFor a limited time only...no not used cars, not poorly designed cleaning products, it's the Divx Pro bundle available free for the downloading. The bundle includes the Divx Pro Codec 6.6.1, Divx Content Uploader, Divx Converter 6.2.1 6.(MPEG2/DVD), Divx Player 6.4.3, and Divx Web Player.

Unfortunately, this Divx bundle is not ready for Microsoft Windows Vista (pout), despite the obligatory courtesy update-check on Divx's website. Everyone not running Windows Vista, feel free to download either the XP version or Mac Version and thumb your nose at anyone using Vista.

It is conceivable that the Divx programmers are hacking away at Vista logo requirements to make it ready for Microsoft's latest as we speak, but that is unconfirmed as of this writing.

Enjoy the free bundle, and note that the basic version (usually free) edition of this package contains a free 15-day trial of the converter, but today you get the full version of it with this limited time Pro bundle download from Divx.

Thanks George for the tip.

MacHeist sells app bundle crazy cheap

MacHeist BundleThere are few ISVs (independent software vendors) who have a following like MacHeist, much less one so well-deserved. They're the makers of some incredibly popular OS X software, including developers' text editor TextMate, media organization app Delicious Library, RSS reader NewsFire, CD burning app Disco, and half a dozen other great programs. Most weeks MacHeist sells its apps for between $15 and $80, but this week they're giving something back. This week and this week only, MacHeist is selling a bundle of ten programs with sticker prices totaling almost $300, for $49.00. The bundle includes the four apps above, plus FotoMagico, ShapeShifter, DEVONthink Personal, RapidWeaver, iClip 4, and one game of your choosing from Pangea. Considering that many thousands have paid that amount for TextMate alone, it sure sounds like a good deal for me, and almost makes me wish I had a Mac. On top of that, MacHeist is giving 25% of this weeks' proceeds to charity, and when you check out you can choose from among eight, or split the donation between them all. So far they've sold over 1,000 bundles and raised more than $10,000 for charity. Way to use your powers for awesome, MacHeist.

[Thanks, Mattias and Jean Jacques!]

Update: This is the reason they shouldn't let me write the Mac posts. MacHeist isn't the maker of these fine apps--in the words of commenter L, it's "a FREE shareware application giveaway in which Mac users (and even some Windows users) from all over the world participate in whodunnit type puzzles called 'heists' that the people in charge set up all over the internet." And Dave points out that you'll only get NewsFire and TextMate if MacHeist raises $50,000 or $100,000 for charity, respectively.

Google Toolbar to be bundled with Adobe Shockwave Player

Google ToolbarSearchEngineJournal is reporting that Google has stuck a deal with Adobe to have Google Toolbar bundled with every install of Shockwave Player for Windows, and bundling with other Adobe products will begin in the near future. Adobe says that this won't affect the bundling that it's already doing with Yahoo! Toolbar, which presumably means when you install Shockwave Player you'll be given the option to install either, both, or neither. Google has been distributing (a Yahoo! Toolbar-less) Adobe Acrobat Reader since January, but apparently the Google Toolbar bundling is an unrelated financial deal.

Google outbids Microsoft for Dell bundling deal

GoogleCNet's Tom Krazit is reporting that Google has outbid Microsoft for a bundling deal that will put Google's software on new Dell PCs, which I'm sure is causing some grumpiness in Redmond. In what is rumored to have been a billion-dollar deal, Dell computers will come with Google Toolbar and Google Desktop preinstalled and, perhaps most significant, searches in Internet Explorer will default to Google. In exchange, Google will pay Dell a fee for each install.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
