DivShare makes it easier to upload with Power Uploading

divshare power uploaderIf you're currently using DivShare to store, host and share files you should be pretty excited about this new feature. And if you don't use this DivShare's free service, it could make you want to start.

DivShare launched a Power Uploader application that adds simplicity to the whole uploading process. This new tool provides users with a drag and drop interface with folder tree and file previews for quick and effective uploading of up to 10 files at once.

The uploading tool is a Java Applet and ActiveX Control that provides a pipeline between your hard drive and your DivShare account. Setting for the uploader can be accessed in your main Account page.

Wootagent feeds your Woot obsession

All right, I'll own up to it right away. I'm a Woot! nut. I check out their deal of the day before I even look at my email in the morning. I daresay, I've even been known to see what the day's Woot! is before grabbing my morning cuppa Joe. I know I'm not alone in my love of Woot! and that some folks even stay up late into the night compulsively refreshing their browser to get the jump on other Wooters when a new item is about to be offered. Or, um, so I've heard.

Imagine my glee when I heard about Wootagent, a little applet that runs in your system tray and automatically pops up to inform you of a new Woot, a Woot-Off, or when an item sells out (you did get it before it sold out, right?). I downloaded Wootagent last night and woke this morning to find a little pop-up in the corner of my screen informing me of the day's deal, complete with tabbed links, the product description, and comparative price information from Froogle.

Wootagent can be customized a multitude of ways to suit any Wooter's fancy. Want to hear a sound when a new item is available? Check. Want to get rid of the price or description tab? Check. Want to control the pop-up speed? Check. Wootagent is handy for letting you know about great deals you might otherwise miss, and essential for hardcore Wooters who want regular updates from the site.

Although Wootagent is not affiliated with the Woot website, the pop-up sports the same unfortunate dark green and mustard yellow color scheme. But, hey, that's a small price to pay for a widget that feeds my Woot obsession.

Magnetic words - Today's Time Waster

magnetic wordsiSnoop's Fridge or (magnetic words) has been on the web for a long time, but I noticed it's gone all Web 2.0 on us and is using ajax now. No need to refresh your browser, as before. I'm glad the author didn't resort to flash. There are other versions of this on the web, some done in Java, some aren't using whole words, just letters, etc. But I like this one the best, because it looks like a fridge. Post your fun phrases in the comments!

Circuit Simulator applet

I've never been good with electronics. Computers, sure, but electronics, not so much. Although I studied them in school, it just seemed like so much trouble to go to for something to actually happen. I guess I just appreciate microprocessors and the things they can do.

Speaking of things they can do, Circuit Simulator is a Java applet that will allow you to simulate the effects of different electronic components on a circuit graphically. It also includes some complex circuits, and some everyday circuits like a three-way light switch so you can observe exactly how they work.

I wish I'd had this back when I was in school struggling to understand the circuit board project I had to build. At least playing with an acid bath was fun.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
