Alert Thingy v3 adds support for business apps

Version 2 of Alert Thingy may have just been released last month, but version 3 is here now.

V3 has been tweaked to include features that make it an excellent addition to your work desktop, including support for Basecamp, Yammer, and Huddle.

Alert Thingy also works with TwitPic and Twitter Search now, making it one of the most complete desktop Twitter clients around. Ping.fm has also been added so you can easily keep all your status and microblog sites up-to-date. Just visit ping.fm/key and paste in the resulting code.

To run Alert Thingy, you'll need to have Adobe Air installed. If you're looking for the original FriendFeed only version, it's still available from their site as well.

AlertThingy 2 adds support for Facebook, Flickr, more services

AlertThingy 2
When AlertThingy launched in April of 2008, the Adobe AIR-based application was a desktop client for social networking/micro-blogging service FriendFeed. The developers eventually added support for Twitter, which started an arms race between AlertThingy and Twhirl, a Twitter client that added support for FriendFeed.

Now AlertThingy has been updated to version two, and it supports the following services:
  • Digg
  • Facebook
  • Flickr
  • Jaiku
  • TinyURL
  • Tumblr
  • Twitter
You can use AlertThingy 2 to upload images to Flickr, update your status on Twitter or Facebook, post messags to Tumblr, and so on. And of course, you can see what your friends on each of those services is up to. Users can also subscribe to RSS feeds to receive updates from blogs and news web sites.

If you prefer the classic version of AlertThingy that works with just FriendFeed, AlertThingy v1 is still available for download as well.

Alert Thingy: FriendFeed on your desktop

FriendFeed is a service that keeps track of the activity of your contacts across pretty much every social network. The problem with FriendFeed is that people want to view different sets of contacts in different ways. There are third party desktop clients for Twitter and Pownce, for example, that let you follow along and respond to comments more easily. But when you lump those services in with less-immediate ones like Yelp, Flickr, or the RSS feed to your friend's blog, the slower stuff starts to gum up the works.

Alert Thingy to the rescue! If you use FriendFeed, and you've been looking for a faster way to read updates, you're in luck: a desktop version is here. Alert Thingy is an Adobe Air application, which gives it the advantage of being lightweight and cross-platform. There aren't a lot of bells and whistles to it, but it will display your feed and allow you post items directly to FriendFeed.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
