Vista gadgets to run on Windows Mobile 6

Vista Gadgets on Windows Mobile 6I'm still a little dubious that a 3-inch screen is the right place for widgets. But I have to say it looks like Microsoft is working on some pretty cool tools integrating Vista sidebar gadgets with Windows Mobile 6.

On10 has a video showing off a prototype. At this point, you can drag and drop a Vista gadget from your PC to your mobile device, but it only shows up in an application that runs gadgets. Eventually the goal is to let you run gadgets on your Today Screen, which I have to say would be pretty cool.

The problem is most gadgets look small on your PC screen, but would take up serious screen real estate on your phone or PDA. If they can figure out a way to scale the gadgets so that you can easily throw 3 or 4 widgets and a few traditional plugins onto your Today Screen at the same time, that would be exciting.

Interestingly Windows Mobile Program Manager Mel Sempat says in the video that the inspiration behind bringing gadgets to mobile devices was the iPhone.

Outlook Sidebar Gadgets for Vista - Today's Mod

Outlook GadgetsIf you're running Windows Vista, you've probably already played around with the stock sidebar gadgets that come installed on Vista. If you're interested in finding more sidebar gadgets, check out Windows Live Gallery to browse through what's available.

Probably the first thing I thought of when I became aware that the sidebar would be included in Vista was the idea that Outlook data could be kept on-screen to act as a sort of dashboard for your personal information like tasks and appointments, not to mention email.

Well so far there are three Outlook-related sidebar gadgets available: the general purpose Outlook info gadget, and the self-explanatory Outlook Upcoming Appointments and Outlook Tasks gadgets. All work basically as you'd expect.

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
