Man or Astro-man? Literally on Fire, Days before SXSW Music Fest

Playing for only the fifth time in a decade, Man or Astro-man? delivered straightforward, hard-driving rock, plus a flaming Theremin, lightning bolt generator and a computer keyboard played like a guitar emitting "System 7 resource sounds" (a techno geek thrill). The band also did spacesuit antics, amplifier climbing, drum kit crashing and the 1990s surf punk rock that has maintained an enthusiastic following, despite the band's MIA mode of operation.

Man or Astro-man?, composed of self-proclaimed extraterrestrials, plans to make some new music and play a little more regularly, the sweat-soaked band told Download Squad after their show.

Days before the SXSW music festival, Stumbleupon and digital marketing agency The Barbarian Group showed that the geek-tastic world knows how to throw parties that please. The three-band, free show packed the multi-level Mohawk club during the South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) conference week in Austin.

Rock Lighter

Rock LIghterAhh, the days before cell phones. It used to be that when your favorite rock band broke into their heart-wrenching power ballads, everyone would pull out their lighters and wave them above their heads. These days, the beautiful warm glow of actual fire has been replaced by the cold, hard glow of cell phone screens.

Well it's time to stand up and fight fire using fire. Or, something like that. If waving your cell phone over your head just doesn't feel as good as burning your fingers by holding your lighter's flame on for a 6 minute song, consider navigating your phone's browser to Rock Lighter. There you will find the last flickering flame of yester-year, immortalized in all of its digital glory.

Sushi Cat is an adorable, full-bellied Time Waster

Sushi Cat is one of the cutest Flash games I've ever run across. You play a blue cat with a major talent for eating and, fortunately for you, every level is filled with delicious sushi! The controls are simple: you aim and drop from the top of the screen using the mouse, trying to hit as much sushi as you can on the way down. Eat enough sushi, and you can go on to the next level. Your score depends on how much sushi you eat, and which bucket the cat lands in when it finally reaches the bottom of the screen. The more ...
