Sudoku Fun - OSX Widget of the day

sudokuThis Sudoku widget for OSX is, you guessed it, a game of Sudoku.

If you are unfamiliar with the game of the Sudoku, the principal is pretty simple. You want to get the numbers 1-9 in every vertical and horizontal row, as well as every small square on the puzzle without repeating one.

I'm personally only an "easy" puzzle kind of person, so I find most of the puzzles on this widget pretty challenging. I couldn't find any information about what level of difficulty they claim, but I feel like they're at least medium if not hard. Once advantage of the puzzle however is it saves your progress between dashboard visits, so you can work on the same puzzle for weeks.

If you like to play Sudoku you may also want to try this version of Sudoku for your mobile phone, play Sudoku online, or embed a free daily Sudoku in your blog or website.

Mirror - OS X Widget of the Day

Do you need to check your hair before a big meeting? Check your teeth after eating a spinach salad for lunch?

The Mirror widget made by Baloba Software is exactly what it sounds like, a mirror on your dashboard.

Obviously, the widget requires you to have a webcam connected to your computer. The mirror widget uses QuickTime and QuartzComposer to display an actual image of you, unlike most webcam images that are reversed. It could be a great asset to have on your laptop however when you need to do a quick check of your appearance before stepping away from your computer.

Tuesday's Coming - OS X Widget of the Day

Tuesdays coming widgetThinking about renting a movie later?

Tuesday's Coming is a DVD release widget that gives you a quick look at all of the movies that were recently released on DVD. The widget is pretty simple in design, giving you a list of all the new DVDs that are expected to be released this coming Tuesday, and archive of the DVDs released last Tuesday, and a look forward at DVDs that will be available the following week.

All of the movies are linked to Yahoo! Movies, so if you're not familiar with a particular film you can click on the link and read a movie description, look at pictures, and read reviews before heading out to the video store.

Abracadabra - OSX Widget of the Day

"Now you see it,. Now you don't."

Abracadabra for OSX is a widget that gives you the ability to make files and folders on your computer appear to disappear before your very eyes. Files that are dropped into your magic top hat are hidden from users searching for them in Spotlight as well as most other applications on your Mac.

The hat is password protected, so when you're ready to view your files again you can pull individual files or all of the files inside out. The magic hat's menu can also be password protected to keep spying eyes and stray white rabbits from getting inside.

Like most magic tricks Abracadabra is an optical illusion, so it does not securely protect your files. It does however make them pretty difficult to find for someone who doesn't know what they're looking for.

iStat Nano - OS X Widget of the Day

Do you ever wonder how fast the fans in your Mac are going? How about how much of your computer's memory you're using right this second, and what applications are using the majority of it? iStat Nano is a simple widget that is designed to give you up-to-date stats on your Macs operation. The small widget gives you detailed information on:
  • CPU
  • Memory
  • Hard Drives
  • Bandwidth
  • IP and external IP
  • Fan Speeds
  • Battery
  • CPU Temperature
The widget can give you a pretty good indication on how your system is operating at any given time, as well as give you heads-up when something isn't running as smoothly as you might like.

Dine-O-Matic - OS X Widget of the day

Dine-o-matic
"What do you want to eat?"
"I dunno, what do you want?"
"I don't care you decide"
"Well, it was your idea to go out, you should pick"

Sound familiar? Now you can end dinner fights forever with the Dine-O-Matic widget for OS X. The Dine-O-Matic allows you to input all of your favorite restaurants into it by category. When you can't make up your mind on where to go to dinner simply click on the blue plate and the Dine-O-Matic will make your dining choice for you. The only caveat is that inputing all of your favorite places into the widget can be time-consuming. I would have preferred it if it had been built with a database of local cuisine by zip code.

Graveyard Shift - zombie-busting Time Waster

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet. They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...
