Foxmarks bookmark sync service becomes Xmarks

Xmarks
Foxmarks was a service that let you sync your Firefox bookmarks across multiple computers. But then last month Foxmarks did something silly: The company added support for Internet Explorer and Safari bookmark synchronization, which made the Foxmarks brand obsolete.

Today, the team has remedied the situation by rebranding itself as Xmarks.

Xmarks is also launching a new web portal which makes use of some of the data the company has been collecting over the last few years. For example, you can type any URL into a search bar at Xmarks.com to find information about a web site as well as similar web sites.

There's also a new "smarter search" feature" that adds information to Google search results. An icon pops up next to results that are heavily bookmarked by other users. And if you scroll your mouse over that icon you can find more information about the site. Or if you'd prefer to just use Xmarks to synchronize your bookmarks, you can turn off the smarter search feature.

Foxmarks brings bookmark synchronization to Safari and IE

Foxmarks for IEFoxmarks provides a simple way to keep your Firefox bookmarks synchronized across multiple computers or Firefox profiles. Just install the plugin and any time you add or remove a bookmark from one computer the changes will be reflected on Firefox on any other computer you use. This comes in handy if you want to sync the bookmarks on your home and work computers, or if you have a portable version of Firefox that you keep on a USB flash drive for use while you're traveling, but which you want to keep up to date.

This week the Foxmarks team released tools that let you synchronize your Internet Explorer and Safari bookmarks as well. That means you can sync your IE7 bookmarks at home and work. But it also means you can keep your bookmarks on all three browsers synchronized.

The new tools don't support password synchronization, a feature that Foxmarks added for the Firefox plugin a while back. But it's still a pretty awesome development, especially for anyone who uses Internet Explorer at Work and Firefox at home.

Different bookmarks for different profiles with Foxmarks

Foxmarks is a Firefox plugin that syncing bookmarks between different computers. This is really handy if you're looking for a way to make sure you have the same set of bookmarks at home, at work and on the road. But what if you don't want all of your bookmarks everywhere you go? They've got that covered, too, with a new profile feature.

With profiles, you can pick and choose which bookmarks you want, and where you want them. That way, you can keep those -- ahem -- private bookmarks at home. Syncing still works like normal, so your bookmarks aren't going anywhere, and you can add them or delete them from profiles at any time. You can also keep a mobile profile, so the mobile-optimized sites you use are close at hand on my.foxmarks.com.

Keep your bookmark folders synced with Foxmarks

If I had to pick a Firefox extension that I simply couldn't live without, Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer would be my choice. This handy little tool makes browsing from multiple machines a snap and its web-based bookmark access feature has saved my bacon more than once.

Sure, you can carry Firefox and all its bookmarks (not to mention, an entire operating system) around on your thumb drive, but when all you want to do is grab a quick peek at your Firefox bookmark folder, Foxmarks is just what you need. Also, if you'd like your bookmarks folders to look the same on all the computers you regularly use (you want things you bookmarks at work to also be available at home, for example), then Foxmarks is just the ticket.

Let's take a closer look at what makes this nifty little app so irresistible and indispensable.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
