BridgeCraft - Time Waster

BridgeCraftA few days ago I wrote about a time waster called Cargo Bridge, a physics-based bridge building game. While certainly fun, Cargo Bridge had a few frustrating elements, one of which being the fact that the pieces you build with do not snap to a grid. As it turns out, there is another, very similar game called BridgeCraft which does snap its pieces to a grid.

BridgeCraft won't be for all of you; it has a very cartoony feel, and would probably be a fantastic game for kids. But don't discount it as merely a kid's game; while BridgeCraft is certainly easier than Cargo Bridge, it still has that element of challenge that we all look for in a good time waster.

One word of warning: choose Normal difficulty when given the choice between Normal and Easy. Easy is ridiculously easy, which would be great for introducing children to the game, but it's completely unnecessary for adults.

Bridge Builder - Today's Time Waster

Bridge Builder is an oldie but a goodie. The idea of this freely downloadable game is to complete each level's challenge, which is to build a bridge strong enough to allow a train to pass over it without the bridge collapsing. Learning how the game works takes no time at all due to the incredibly simple control scheme. But figuring out what constitutes a strong bridge design can be frustrating, enlightening and exhilarating. There's a certain amount of fun to be derived from watching your painstakingly built bridge collapse unceremoniously, so even when you're frustrated, you're having fun. Thankfully, the stress analysis mode (which turns healthy beams green, and stressed beams red) can help you to determine where the weak point in your design lies.

I love this game because along with being incredibly fun and addictive, it's also educational. There is a free version, which is the one I'm describing here, but if you complete it and find that you're completely addicted, there are thankfully 3 newer commercial versions that you can play.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
