iTunes traffic skyrockets over the holiday season

itunes trafficHow is this for traffic, Hitwise noted that Apple's iTunes hit a 413% increase in traffic over the 2006 holiday season over 2005's. This was mostly due to the ever increasing demand of the famous iPod, making this the third holiday season where the iPod has been at the top of everyone's most wanted list. The traffic doesn't stop there though, Hitwise also noted that iPod users helped in the 110% increase in traffic to the Apple Store to deck their iPod's out with new accessories. There is currently no word out about how many actual songs and videos were downloaded through iTunes over the holidays, or how many sad kids there were that received a Zune instead or an iPod in their stockings.

On another note, Zune was knocked down with a traffic ratio of 30 to 1 to the Apple iTunes store. Yes, the Zune was just released, so we might have to wait until the next holiday season for stats to see how things compare.

Download Leopard, get fired from the Apple Store

OS X LeopardAccording to Think Secret, Apple has fired at least five employees of its retails stores for illegally downloading copies of the upcoming Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. Pre-release copies of the OS were distributed by Apple to WWDC attendees two weeks ago and have since made their way online, and "dozens" of Apple retail employees now face termination after being overheard discussing their "acquisition" of the software. "All of us know that we violated our NDA and ethics policy. Therefore, because we had the character to tell the truth and to face the consequences of our actions, we were terminated," said one of the fired employees told Think Secret on condition of anonymity. "My only question is, if we all lied and denied it would we still be working at Apple today? Even more so, is that the kind of person that Apple wants working for them?"

Apple Store blocking MySpace

AppleWhat do malls have? Apple Stores and teenagers. What do Apple Stores have? Macs connected to the Internet. What do mall-prone teenagers like more than anything? MySpace. You get the idea. Apparently some Apple Stores have been so deluged with people using display computer to browse MySpace and not buying anything that they've begun to block MySpace from store computers, according to ifoAppleStore. Now, loiterers at those stores who try to visit MySpace.com are instead redirected to Apple.com. For some reason I find this hilarious.

The World's Hardest Game 2.0 - Time Waster

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
