Thunderbird Contacts, Hooooooooooooooo!

Thunderbird Importer
DownloadSquad reader Leni Mayo sent us a hot little tip. He has written a script called Zindus for Thunderbird which syncs Google contacts with the address book. It works on version 3.0a as well he says.

Here's a list of the fields that you'll be able to move from Google to Thunderbird:
  • Full Name
  • Primary Email address and Second Email address
  • Phone Numbers: Home, Work, Work Fax, Pager, Mobile
  • Instant Messaging (AIM)
  • Company and Title
  • Notes
There's a few caveats because Google handles contacts differently, so go check out Zindus homepage for a full explanation. It's worth it if you're a die-hard Thunderbirder.

AdiumBook: Keep your Address Book and Adium contacts in sync

Tired of your Adium contacts not lining up with your Address Book contacts? AdiumBook is the solution.

AdiumBook is a free application for the Mac that synchronizes your Adium contacts with your Address Book. The features of AdiumBook fall into three basic categories: search, manage, and reporting.

The built-in search functionality allows you to find an Adium contacts in your Address Book, find an Address Book contact in Adium, or search for specific text in both applications.

Adding an Adium contact to the Address Book is as simple as pressing the Add button. If the contact already exists, you can import the Adium data to an Address Book entry without overwriting the original contact information. Changing the picture, name, IM entry, etc...is as easy as dragging and dropping the information on the Address Book entry.

AdiumBook offers a one-click reporting process that gathers a list of contacts with no picture, a list of contacts present in Adium but not in Address Book, and vice versa.

AdiumBook is open source, and made for Mac OS X.

GoogleFill fills your address book automatically

GoogleFillGoogleFill's author poses the following scenario: Say you make some new business contacts and punch their numbers into your cell phone, then get home and sync it up with your address book. Now you've got a bunch of numbers, but none of their other information. GoogleFill attempts to solve this by running a reverse phone number search on all of those new contacts and, if it finds a match, it'll grab their full names and addresses. All of this seems a little bit creepy, but whenever I have a missed call from a number I don't know, the first thing I do is run it through Google--all GoogleFill really does is automate that process. Unfortunately GoogleFill is Mac OS X-only, but the good news for those Mac users is it's completely free.

Forumwarz - a potentially offensive time waster

I pwn UAfter spending the better part of an hour on Forumwarz I still can't decide if it's just sick or if it's kind of fun. It's a bit like a car wreck on the highway. I know I shouldn't be looking but I can't quite turn away.

It's sick, it's twisted, it's the internet on it's worst level and darn it, it's kind of fun. At least for a little while.

Forumwarz is a parody role-playing game that takes place on the internet - or at least the Forumwarz version of it. Your goal is to complete missions that are given to you through a mock up of GoogleTalk called Sentrillion.

Your first "friend" is ShallowEsophagus who begins giving you missions to pwn various forums by being a troll. Depending on the character type you are assigned at start up, you have tools like drooling on the keyboard or bashing your head on the keyboard that you can use to destroy forum threads and eventually, pwn a forum.

Future missions involve buying illegal software from the Russians, pwning more difficult forums and other internet oddness.

Completing missions gives you cash, called Flezz in game, and items that you can pawn or use in other missions. The game is NOT for those easily offended. It's crass, coarse and there are frequent f-bombs in the fake chat sessions.

This is also a game for a more mature audience as it requires you to shop at the Drugs R Fun store to get various concoctions to improve your playing, engage in certain cyber activities to get more Flezz and just generally use a more adult perspective.

If you can get past that, here are the more enjoyable and time-wasting aspects.
