Google Apps Marketplace launches
The announcement for the new marketplace is actually going on right now. Head on over to the Google Code YouTube Channel to watch the live broadcast.Google Apps, if you're confused by the sheer number of 'apps'-related terms used in conversation nowadays, are Google's in-the-cloud business solutions. Today's launch does not represent the launch of apps that you and I will be able to use with Gmail (but I doubt a consumer Marketplace is far away...)
The Google Apps Marketplace is here to fill the gaps. Citing security concerns, the Marketplace will be full of extensions and apps that join enterprise services -- and your data -- together. To be honest, I don't know the full extent of what we can expect to see on the Marketplace, but I'm sure we'll review some apps when they appear!
If you're unable to watch the video, Mashable is live blogging the broadcast. To get you up to speed, here are some bullet points from the first half hour:
- It will cost developers $100 to join the Marketplace as a seller. 20% of revenue will go to Google (significant, because Apple takes 30%!)
- Lots of partners in the program, from launch: Aviary, Expensify and others
- OAuth is being utilized, to ensure secure interconnectivity between Google Apps and external services/data
The Illusionist's Dream is a simple platformer; you play as a magician who needs to get through each level by transforming into any number of animals that you encounter along the way.
Each animal can do different things; the butterfly can obviously fly, but if it encounters a frog, the frog eats it, and you have to start over again. There's also a fox that runs fast and leaps far, but it eats any rabbits that cross its path. That means that, if you may need to be a rabbit later on, you need to take that into account ...

Google's privacy practices scare me...I'd prefer them, being as open as they are, to work out a way to NOT have a centralized marketplace and open it up kind of like Handango and what not. It'd be interesting to see how multiple competing marketplaces would work for a single platform. (A viable platform that is...totally ignoring the WinMo's of old)

Google had to be quick to launch their own Apps Marketplace, before Microsoft did.
But whenever Microsoft does launch its own version of a Business Apps Marketplace, it will be game over for Google.

So, the marketplace launched like...today...but apps are already bubbling over with dozens of "5 star" reviews? I'm calling shenanigans...

I looked at it just now and I was wondering the same thing...
To be fair, free add-ons are probably going to be installed pretty quickly -- Google Apps does have some 25 million users :)

Thanks Google! We were in short of marketplaces. The AppStore, Android Market, Ovi Store, Blackberry Application Store, Intel Atom Netbook Store and webOS Store are just not enough.
Some questions...
1. Is the $100 a 1 time fee, or a yearly fee?
2. Can all Google Apps user use the apps, or do you need an enterprise Google Apps account, to use the apps?

Looks like one-time-only.
To install the apps you enter a domain name -- so that's enterprise only, for now :)
