Tinker and Hold 'em coming to Games for Windows - for free!
Click the shortcut, and you'll be whisked away to a web page offering some additional games you can download. Right now there are three: Peggle, Ranch Rush, and Bumper Stars.
Two more titles are coming soon. Tinker (the awesome puzzler you can see in action in the video above) and Hold 'Em (for you poker fans out there) are set to be released in the very near future.
Now, this news isn't going to make all Windows users smile. It's probably going to rub some Vista Ultimate owners the wrong way - since Tinker and Hold 'Em were two of the oft-talked-about-and-rarely-seen Ultimate Extras.

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

It is a pretty wicked slap in the face to Vista Ultimate suckers (I mean buyers). What features are left now to distinguish my $299 Vista Ultimate from somebody's $29 Vista Home Basic? A crippled BitLocker? Microsoft should have thrown Vista Ultimate users a bone...we obviously have money to throw away, so the only thing gained by alienating us is Mac market share.

Ultimate from Home Basic? How about Windows Media Center, Aero Glass, Remote Desktop, domain login functionality, and all that other stuff? And yes, Bitlocker.
Vista Ultimate was meant to be the one version of Vista with all the features from Home Premium and all the features from Business, plus more. (Bitlocker) If you bought it because of a few little games, then sorry, but you didn't do your research.

You're missing the point. Of course I didn't buy Ultimate just for the extras, but they were extras and should be left as such. The value they added to the purchase has been taken away.

Yeah I was annoyed that there's really nothing special about me getting the Ultimate version of Vista other than that... not even the movie wallpaper made me happy. Glad Windows 7 has this for free and not charging for it.

I don't have that link in my Win7 start menu. The only thing that's there is the Games Explorer.
Can someone copy the link in the comments here?
Thanks

Pretty lame actually. Only 2 of the 3 can be downloaded, and then you only get a "Deluxe Trial Version", you have to join the paid club for the whole game.

I was confused by "some additional games you can download" in the article; is there some way for Windows 7 users to download the full version for free or is the article just referring to the trial version that's available to everyone?

As far as I could tell it's just a trial. The page was titled something to the affect of Windows 7 Games, so I assume there's nothing special (and I'm running Ultimate).

I may be a sucker for buying vista ultimate less than a year ago and 2 weeks before windows 7 was announced, but since they bent me over and slapped me in the face when finished, I figure a 31, I will crack and/or get a cracked copy of everything I want from them the rest of my life and have NOT ONE bad feeling that it was wrong. I am writing this on my fully functional free copy of windows 7 ultimate now, that and full visual studio pro 2008 take some of the pain away. Thank wille gates and the sheeple
