Boxee media center to hit beta next month

Boxee can access online video from services including Hulu, Joost, and BBC's iPlayer. You can use it to enjoy audio and video podcasts. And you can access local media stored on your hard drive.
But despite all of its features, Boxee is still alpha software. That's going to change next month. Boxee is set to launch the first beta version of its software at an event in New York on December 7th. I suppose the day will continue to live in Infamy, although I doubt that decades from now we'll still be talking about it as the date that Boxee went beta.
The new version will have a new user interface, improved navigation, a user-controlled queue, and a new TV and movie search function among other changes.

Believe it or not, Atari have just released a bunch of old games on their own website. These aren't clones, these aren't even 'loving interpretations' -- these are the real thing, remade by Atari themselves. This comes as part of a re-launch for the Atari website which includes an online store.
I warn you, if you read on, this might turn into more than just a mere ten-minute time-waster.

Am I the only one who thinks that Plex is way better?
Maybe this new version will be more useful to me. I don't like the way boxee syncs media stored on the hard drive and it isn't possible to change the system sound using the remote.....

I do like Plex better, but I still use Boxee more as odd as that sounds. Plex just feels much more of a slick product, but it eats my MacBook Pro's CPU for lunch and constantly keeps a hot temp even when just sitting at the home GUI screen. Boxee still warms it up a bit, but the CPU usage is much less.
