Scott's GMail Alert is a kick-ass GMail, Google Calendar, and RSS notifier

Today's entrant into the battle for GMail notification supremacy -- Scott's Gmail Alert -- has a lot going for it. Way more than just the fact that it doesn't use the word notifier in its name.
SGA can check up to five different GMail accounts including those in your Google Apps domains. Set custom color for your accounts and create as many as ten special alerts to make sure emails from VIPs stand out. Font settings can also be customized, and Aero Glass is supported on Windows 7 and Vista.
Want more? You're also able to compose quick messages right from the SGA tray icon. Need to attach a file? The app can handle that as well. You can also send a quick reply from any alert that appears by clicking the reply icon. As you receive alerts, SGA quietly builds up a contact list from the senders' addresses - which makes sending messages from the tray app even easier.
But the alerts don't stop there. SGA can also keep you abreast of upcoming events on your Google Calendar and up to three others. You can also receives new stories from the top categories at Google News and an additional location of your choice.
Scott's GMail Alert is a free download and runs on Windows XP, Vista, and WIndows 7. Be sure to read the author's note (just above the comments on his page) regarding XP SP2 or earlier or you may experience some display problems.
So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

I gave it a try, and there's lots to like about it. But it has this annoying thing it does, it flashes momentarily every time it checks for new mail. After about 10 minutes, that was a deal breaker. No way to shut that off, that I could see, so I turfed it.

Agreed. A lot of features to like, but just seems VERY beta and could use a better icon graphic and animation. Plus the new mail notification stuck as the top level app and displayed itself over my full-screen game until I switched over and clicked it off. I'll check back in on later versions because the concept is good.

Show stopper: Doesn't support Google Apps accounts - hardcodes @gmail.com into the e-mail address.

Wrong, the alerts in my screenshot are from soundinnovations.ca. Look lower on the options screen for the custom domain option.

@Lee Mathews, you are correct about the Google Apps thing. It should also be worth pointing out that this program does have some GUI issues and follows absolutely no GUI guidelines :-P It looks like it was thrown together!

If you have some problems with it, there is an easy way to mention them to the developer so that they know about them without having to look on forums all day to find out. So just tell [me] about the issues and I'll check into them for you.
