AVG releases version 9 - Free version to drop on October 15th
Even the install process has been streamlined, with developers reducing the number of tedious, finger-numbing mouse clicks from 22 to 11. Thank you, AVG, for doing this. It's a little thing, but no techy enjoys tapping "next" nearly two dozen times.
Grisoft says scanning speeds have been increased by as much as 50% and that version 9 also reduces Windows boot lag by 10 to 15%. The firewall is more intuitive and has been made less intrusive -- another small but welcome change.
The paid versions are available now through the AVG web site, and we've been told that the much-loved free version will be good to go in ten days.
If you're a believer in free antivirus, your preferred version will be up for grabs on October 15th. Keep your browser tuned to free.avg.com -- that's where the download will appear when it goes live. Of course, you'll also be able to read about the release here at Download Squad.

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. Any faster in Windows 7? Current version of AVG (free version) causes major boot delays in Windows 7.

AVG 7 was the best version. fast. unobtrusive (no nagware). Was fairly reliable. AVG 8 was the complete opposite. Unless it gets glowing reviews, I doubt Ill be giving AVG a second chance.

It's true. As soon as 7 forced me to upgrade to 8, I switched to Avast, which, other than the retarded default skin, is quite good

Strangely I've never had any problem with AVG.

Personally, I find that Microsoft Security Essentials does the job perfectly. It's lightweight and powers through full system scans in about an hour or two. That's pretty good considering I have an external hard drive with several backup DVD ISOs of my software, and it scans through them.

I think I will just stick with Avast. I don't like my antivirus software with bloat, and Avast has always been perfect for me.
