Updating your iPod Touch to OS 3.1 - now 50% cheaper!
The update previously retailed at $9.95 and can now be purchased for $4.95 - UK users now pay £2.99 instead of £6.99.
Version 3.1 includes genius mixes, genius recommendations for apps, peer-to-peer gaming, spotlight search, A2DP Bluetooth stereo and a whole bunch of fixes. Of course, if you haven't made the jump to a 3.x release at all yet there has never been a better time to do so - the major 3.0 update added copy and paste, a landscape keyboard and much more.
You can read more about the update at the Apple site and purchase the update itself from within iTunes.
Now, while the price drop is undoubtedly a good thing, many Apple critics argue (quite rightly in my opinion) that the update should not be chargeable in the first place. A number of the features in the new release actually have the potential to increase Apple's revenue from the device (such as genius recommendations for apps), so arguably it would be in Apple's interest to make the update completely free.
If you've not made the jump yet, does the new price point of the update tempt you?

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

$4.95 is to much for bug fixes, and new bugs that people are having with exchange, the update for Ipod should be free.
OS Updates should be free Apple makes more than enough money with all the software, music, videos and entertainment I buy. Leave the OS free or were all gonna get Android devices or a Zune.

I'm not tempted. It frustrates me, because many applications end up taking advantage of the new features and it becomes more and more necessary to continue use of the app store to have the 3.x update.
If i have to pay the additional fee to update my device that is really built around using the apps (the iPod Touch really excels at mimicking the iPhone, not the original iPods) it's obnoxious to me that there is a continuing cost-of-admission for such an expensive device.
$5 isn't much, i know, but when i've had to pay $10 for the 2.0 update, and there is always the prospect of further updates costing more money, and i am unable to expand storage, or replace a battery on this device, i'm really not interested.
But there's clearly a market for it, so if it works for people, I can't blame Apple too much.

Not remotely tempted. There's not a single feature that interests me.

Pay to update the OS? I'm just not going to do it. Like you said, it's to Apple's advantage for all devices to have the latest version, so I fully expect they will drop the charge entirely soon. If not, well my Touch does everything I want as it is.

You can update for FREE.
just download the software and do a manual update by shift + clicking Restore and select the firmware you downloaded. boom done your ipod touch is now 3.1. apple will never ask you for money again. (at least until 4.0 comes out, at which point you rinse and repeat)
make sure that you get the proper firmware 1G, 2G or 3G.
iPod1,1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw (iPod Touch 1G)
iPod2,1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw (iPod Touch 2G)
iPod3,1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw (iPod Touch 3G)

Wow, 3.1 includes A2DP even though it's got no bluetooth? Nice.

I am surprised people are willing to pay for updates. The basic unit looks nice and shiny, however that is all it has to offer. It is full of basic flaws, it offers no scalability in terms of memory, no replacable battery, things like SMS forwarding, copy and paste (which were a given in other basic phones) is not available in a "state of the art cutting edge, next generation device". Apple loyalists I assume have an IQ 25 points below a retarded jellyfish, which is why they collective posteriors are plundered by their messiah at will. I can not for the life of me understand how the organisation survives and makes profits fooling people into believing that a minor update that adds on some features that should have been present at launch, costs money. Whats funnier is that Apple decides to slash the price of an update by 50% barely a week after some millions (?) have paid USD 10 for an update. I am sure, Obelix would have just this to say "These American's are crazy".
