AT&T: iPhone software update with MMS coming Sept. 25
The most embarrassing thing about having an iPhone is its lack of multimedia messaging. MMS is a feature that even old-school candybar "dumbphones" have had for years, and this supposedly cool, revolutionary device has been around for years without supporting it. Well, that's about to change. On Sept. 25, Apple will release a software update (presumably iPhone OS 3.1) that will enable MMS, according to AT&T. The phone company goes on to explain that they've been building out the network infrastructure that well be necessary to handle the unprecedented levels of data transfer they expect MMS to bring with it. iPhone users will believe that when they see, as AT&T has historically caught a lot of flack for providing inadequate service for the iPhone. In fact, a recent piece in Time magazine points out the carrier's deficiencies. Given all that, as an iPhone owner, I'm cautiously excited to start using MMS later this month.
So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

Honestly who cares about MMS, it seems like AT&T would have been the first one in line to support it since they charge ridiculous rates per message. Why if I am already paying for the ability to email a photo to anyone I choose, would I want to pay an extra 40 cents per message to send a low res image?

You know, if someone actually sends me an MMS I'm gonna slap them up side the head. I don't care if MMS has been around for 5 years - there's a very good reason it wasn't a high priority - people send emails from the phones now, in most cases with no charge - the last thing I want with my 200 txt plan is to get dinged for someone sending something I could have got in email (and see in my phone, in my desktop browser, can forward to my mum who doesn't have mms capabilities). I'm not that happy with AT&T and Apple overall for the capacity (granted I'm in Boston and 3G coverage here is good compared with NYC) and the app store but someone needs to put this MMS thing in perspective.

ATT was looking at mega lawsuits, so they are adding mms. But this will make their oversubcribed network suck even move. Where is the tethering every other provider offers? ATT: Paying a premium by locked in customers while delivering DOODOO.

Out of curiosity do non-US, unlocked iPhones also lack MMS support?

it probably won't be iphone os 3.0, but just a carrier update. mms is already supported in iphone os 3.0.

i meant it probably won't be iphone os 3.1, it'll most likely be a carrier update.

Doesn't bother me. I don't know any one that sends MMS messages and even text messages are not as popular any more. The iPhone has email, IM and Twitter functionality, all of them free, so how does it make sense to use sms or mms?

I'm from Australia and I've had MMS Support since iPhone OS 3.0.
I keep reading all these articles about AT&T not having MMS yet and think that my RSS reader is picking up old posts or something :P
Even so with MMS, I've used it a total of 3-4 times since then. I much prefer to email a photo to someone, or flickr it and email the link to someone.

Hold up how do u say no one sends pics thru mms. I know a lot of girls around da ages of 18 to 23 use mms to send dem sexy pics not email especially if they have a fone like metro which most people have now-a-days do to the economy. i live in sacramento, CA an the chicks i encounter tend to get confused when i have to explain how i can send pics to there fone. if you dnt know, basically you have to have them send a pic to ur email sounds simple until they ask why an u have to explain ur iPhone doesnt have mms an for me to send u a pic i need your fones email number. so i think its great that were gettin mms cuz i know it will b a lot less stressful to get sum of those eye catchin pics that us guys like to get every now an than.
